Since DT Kobe Smith decommitted in late December, Mark Stoops has been searching for size inside to provide depth on the defensive line. They might have found their man at Hutchinson Community College — defensive tackle J.J. Holmes.
A JuCo teammate of offensive tackle Tate Leavitt, Holmes only had offers from Colrado State and Southern Miss entering the dead period. Since then he’s picked up offers from South Florida, Kansas, Kansas State and Kentucky among others. This week he’ll be taking an official visit to USF, and next weekend he’ll be coming to Lexington.
Holmes gave an update to Colorado State’s Rivals’ site, and he had nothing but good things to say about UK.
“Kentucky, man. I’m liking Kentucky a lot,” Holmes told GoldandGreenNews.com. “I just like them. I like (their) style, their defensive style. I like the players that they are bringing in this recruiting class. They actually signed a couple of guys from my junior college. So I’m going to know them boys. I also like USF a lot.”
Holmes is an explosive athlete, playing both tackle and end in a 4-3 for Hutchinson. With only one DT in the ’16 class (JaQuize Cross), and only two returning DT’s on the depth chart (Matt Elam and Adrian Middleton), the Cats will be thin at defensive tackle if they can’t land Holmes.
