Seems like everyone liked what went on at the spring game, such great weather too.

Really can’t understand why Bolden would even consider Duke. All of Grayson Allen’s and Luke Kennard’s passes are 10 ft high and hit the rim. They never saw a shot they didn’t like.

If we truly have the scholarship available and he has the first choice at it he is crazy not to pick UK for many, many reasons.

Spring Game was an awesome experience. Weather was great, the action was good and UK shows some promise for a successful football program.

My top two biggest takeaways from the Spring game:

    1. Gunnar Hoak will be great before his career is done. He will be the best QB we have seen since Woodson in my opinion. Threaded the needle a couple of times, good decision making, knows when to keep it and when to throw it.

    2. Matt Elam is a complete waste of space at nose. I’m not sure what reasoning other than potential based on size the DL coach has for playing him over anyone else. I don’t mean to be so negative. I didn’t see any reason for him to have a jersey on Saturday. Looked to have zero motor whatsoever.

Elam clearly hasn’t done the work to get into SEC shape. Maybe he will finally do so this summer, he knows he has to get better to even think about playing at the next level. That said, every once in a while when he trucks a guy, it’s pretty awesome.

i didn’t watch the whole game but i heard he was double teamed frequently. was he ineffective one on one as well or are we throwing him under the bus for not being able to take on two linemen at once?

      10:23 am April 18, 2016 Permalink

Elam was good for about 1 out of 7 or 8 plays. You’re a 5-star sophomore, you should be better than that, especially in an intersquad scrimmage at Kentucky. Toth was a 2-star. Effort is a big problem with Elam. It’s very visible from the stands.

I don’t mean to throw anyone under the bus, I have just heard over and over this Spring how he still needs to step up and improve, because he hasn’t yet. He could have a huge impact on the d line if he would work hard and show leadership.

He probably would have ended up being cut if he had gone to ‘Bama and shown that level of laziness. I think he thinks he can just coast because he is at UK. Sometimes it is up to the individual player to decide that he needs to put the extra work in to realize his potential – it’s not always up to the coaches.

Elam was double teamed a lot and honestly at his position moving into the gap is what he’s supposed to do. But, he should lose 25 pounds.

QB situation will be interesting for a few years … it’s possible that Jones > Hoak > Barker … even it’s close, I can see the fans wanting the younger backup QB after every interception

Johnson looked pretty good scrambling, but they didn’t want him getting hit and it was the 2nd team defense, so …

Also it’s our defense and we haven’t been able to stop a mobile threat qb since the dawn of time… i honestly think his sole purpose for being here is to play on the scout team in practice the week leading into a game against a mobile qb (like Louisville)

I want to be positive, but after the spring game Saturday, I don’t see any way we win 6 games with our schedule. Barker is not elite at the QB position right now and has already been named the starter in April. I think that is a VERY questionable decision by Stoops at this point. A lot of things aren’t adding up for a good year for me.

Sadly, I have to agree. The schedule was set up perfectly for us to make a bowl game last year, and the team didn’t deliver. Schedule is much tougher this year, and we are about the same, at best. I hope they prove me wrong, but it’s just hard to get very excited about the football team this year after the massive letdowns of the past two years. From the looks of the spring game attendance, a lot of fans feel the same way.

Maybe we can pipe in the sound of Matt’s nose whistle after every TD.

But seriously, what would be wrong with just doing the Wildcat growl like we do at the start of the games in Rupp?

They should adopt Matt’s comment as this year’s slogan. “We don’t think it will be worse.” 🙂

Diaz and Hoover both have odd numbers too. High baseball numbers is a pet peeve of mine. Diaz is #70 and Hoover is #60.

To me Bolden is playing the I am a star and will build my stock up by holding out for as long as I can. He is a Dukie all the way and end up as a late first round draft choice. IMO

    • ukjaybrat
      11:43 am April 18, 2016 Permalink

He could be genuinely concerned about where his scholarship is coming from. bc both duke and uk had 13 players on the roster and duke [basically] kicked thorton off the team to open up for bolden. i think he’s waiting to see if UK’s roster opens up (briscoe to the nba or lee grad transfer) and i think briscoe is coming back and lee is waiting for bolden to make a decision.

I think he will end up a duke too, but for a different reason i guess.

I don’t think that Bolden is waiting on Lee and Lee waiting on Bolden…that would just mean that Cal is doing a terrible job communicating and I highly doubt that is happening.

Being from Somerset, we have way too many stop lights. Things we have zero shortage on…pizza places, Mexican restaurants, & stop lights.

  17. This comment is late because my phone rang during the song, but…

Johnny Cash was “Always Rappin’!” 😉

Seriously, I remember seeing some rapper (on VH1 or something) being asked about the song “Convoy” and he said it was the 2nd greatest country rap ever. When asked what the greatest one was, he said “A Boy Named Sue” by Johnny Cash.
