Recapping a fun night in Cleveland (Friday Show Thread)

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

Good morning, friends, and welcome to the Friday edition of Kentucky Sports Radio. Everyone else get plenty of sleep? Ha! Me neither. But, after last night’s beatdown of West Virginia, who needs sleep? The Cats are in the Elite Eight and looked absolutely dominant against the Mountaineers. A mere eight hours after finishing the postgame show, Matt and Drew will be on to talk about it some more.

Join in on the fun by calling (502) 571-1080.

37-Oh Yeah! Or I should say 36-WON. That was an awesome game, awesome post game show. I am sure everyone in KY is tired but well worth it.

Anyone worried about ND? I hope they talk smack.

No team in the nation can prepare for the defense of this team. The length that has to be shot over and size inside cannot be duplicated in practice…..period. Notre Dame has to shoot another 75% to win and believe me that not happening.

Hope Aaron’s finger is OK. I know Cal said he is fine – wondering if they are going to X-ray it just in case. It will probably be sore and swollen today. I’m sure he will be able to play, and glad it’s not his shooting hand, but i worry a little that it could affect his passing or ball handling. That was ugly!

Same here. All I can think about when that kind of thing happens is Dale Brown’s shoulder, DA’s knee, Keith Bogan’s ankle, Willie’s ankle, Poy’s knee. If the first 4 injuries listed hadn’t happened, we’re certainly playing for (in my mind) at LEAST #10, and probably #11 to tie UCLA, and maybe even more. I just hope Aaron’s finger & Poy’s knee don’t cost us #9. The good thing is this team is so deep it’s less likely that happens.

Not trying to be Debbie Downer BTW. I’m feeling GREAT about this team.

      GO CATS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last night reminded me of Mike Tyson’s second best quote ever: “Everyone has a plan ’til they get punched in the mouth.”

Best Mike Tyson quote ever: “I want to eat his children.”

And even weirder than that is that the next sentence was “Praise be to Allah”.

I know how we all feel about nicknames, but after last night, I’m calling these guys the Smash Brothers. Cause they’re brothers. And they smash.

Personally, I like “Devastation Inc.”, but that’s because I came up with it. 😉

      But that one is fitting.

When they know a shot is going in they can yell “Andrew smash!” and “Aaron smash!”. Okay, maybe not, but I like your thinking mrsaturdaypants.

Is Notre Dame gonna wear the mustard yellow uniforms again. Wow those things are ugly.

Remember Len Elmore was the analyst on the 92 Duke game and said he didn’t think Laettner stepped on Timberlake on purpose. Obviously a moron for over two decades.

Notre Dame players are being very gracious.

Andrew’s visible joy when that crazy and-one went in is one of my favorite moments of the season.

Devin joined right in with him. One of my favorite things with this team has been watching the other players reactions when one of them gets a great dunk or block, etc. They all play with a lot of joy and genuinely seem happy for each other.

If you saw the replay from the camera angle from above the basket, Booker is looking straight up at it and it looks like he is already smiling before the ball falls through because he realizes it’s about to. Classic!

That’s awesome. I’ll look for that today when I watch the replay over and over. I was only seeing Andrew at the time, because he’s usually so reserved you don’t see a lot of feeling expressed.

They may have to hire a DIII or NAIA coach at this point, or someone with no HC experience.

I wonder if the Tenn “faithful” are regretting running Cuanzo Martin out of town. He was a decent coach and actually got them to within a single shot of the Elite Eight the year before. They spent the whole time pining for Bruce pearl to return. Now they can accept being an SEC cellar dweller for the next 5 years.
