Great game last night! So we are tied in the SEC right?

Should be some good talk with the UL and WTH them getting championship rings? What did they win??!!

    • ukjaybrat
      10:17 am March 2, 2016 Permalink

not really. we have the same record, but they have the tie-breaker. They would have to lose at home to vandy for us to take the 1 seed. however we are guaranteed no less than a 2 seed. At this point, (other than game times) i think the 2 seed is an easier route, so i kind of hope they beat vandy.

    • Booby Petrino
      11:32 am March 2, 2016 Permalink

I hate the “tie breaker” rule. It seems odd since we play some divisional teams twice and only happened to play A&M once. I mean what if we were tied with Vandy, who we split games with this year? What would be the tie breaker there? Whatever that is should be the real tiebreaker since we play some teams twice and some once.

  2. RealCatsFan
    9:59 am March 2, 2016 Permalink

JB, yes, solid win, and that puts us in a tie for first with A&M. If we take care of business against LSU (I think we will), and Vandy can beat A&M (also a very real possibility), we will be inn the SEC driver’s seat once again. 🙂

Listening to Tom Leach, and he was talking about the light crowd at the O-Dome. Even in a down year, however, they still bring a much larger crowd against the Cats. For comparison, look at the crowd that showed up at A&M for the Auburn game. Couldn’t have been more than a few thousand people, and that’s probably a generous estimate.

Along those lines, did anyone hear them talking about the renovations coming to the O-Dome? They said they will finally move the seats and scorers’ tables back more than 18 inches from the sidelines. This is way overdue. I think the tight quarters, along with the goal supports being barely 4 feet back from the endlines, present a major hazard. I think this contributed to Nerlens’ injury in 2013. If he had more room, he probably wouldn’t have run into the goal support after hustling to make that block. Could have been the difference between a berth in the NCAA tourney and a first round NIT loss.

Leach also pointed out that Saturday will be a farewell to Alex, Jamaal, probably Tyler, and also, Big Bertha.

won’t be anything “official” for tyler and jamal. because they arent’ seniors. but it will definitely be an unofficial send-off to the nba

That game was ugly to watch, especially at the end. However, I will take the win any way we can get it.

foul, free throw, free throw, rinse, repeat about 20 times… why did that bother you?

    • RealCatsFan
      10:21 am March 2, 2016 Permalink

That was possibly the most painful last 5 minutes of a game that I have had to watch in a while. I literally nodded off a few times out of boredom watching free throw shooting. Another example of referees wanting to insert themselves into the game action.

    • ukjaybrat

i had to pee and walk the dog, and i kept thinking “it’s over, just go!” but didn’t want to miss anything like a fast break dunk or a poster or something

Especially the last 90 seconds or so. I was ready to beat Florida’s new coach for not stopping the foul-fest when they were down double digits.

    • Realme
      10:34 am March 2, 2016 Permalink

New rule (or new enforcement policy): if you intentionally foul to try to get back in the game when down double digits, it’s called flagrant and the other team gets foul and technical foul shots.

    • RealCatsFan
      10:34 am March 2, 2016 Permalink

      ukjaybrat, that’s why they invented DVR’s. 🙂

    • ukjaybrat
      10:39 am March 2, 2016 Permalink

There already exists an intentional foul rule. And by the rule, all of these fouls that are “intentional” to stop the clock SHOULD be intentional fouls. But they never call it that way because that’s how the game has always been played. Kinda like how we all though slamming the ball was an automatic flagrant (it’s not) we all think a common touch foul at the end to stop the clock is not intentional (it should be)… just food for thought

    • runningunnin.454
      10:41 am March 2, 2016 Permalink

A new rule is the only thing that will fix the final minute of the games. Take it out of the ref’s hands.
Foul in the last minute, it’s 2 shots and the ball back!
That’s the only thing that will keep the final minute from lasting 30+ minutes.

    • ukjaybrat

i would say 1 shot and the ball (that’s how the nba does it for intentional fouls)

    • runningunnin.454
      11:13 am March 2, 2016 Permalink

UKJayBrat: Agreed. I would take 1 shot and the ball. I remember, too, when only 2 officials called the games. It was said that they missed calls. Maybe, but when somethings broken, you have to fix it.
Three refs blowing their whistles to hear the roar of the home crowd is destroying the game.

I agree with Danny – I was fit to be tied at halftime when we had FOUR TIMES AS MANY FOULS as Florida and had not even shot a FT. It evened up a little in the second half, but the ref’s still sucked. That tackle near the end of the game against Murray should have been called an intentional foul.

After yesterday I’m finally ready to make the call on a previous topic. If I have to pick one point guard / shooting guard tandem from the Cal era, I want Tyler and Jamal. Tyler is a leader and decision maker like no other, and when Jamal shoots a 3, I have no doubt it’s going in. Both highly consistent all season, and without a lot of help.

Can we not give Briscoe credit for his shooting last night?

He was a good shooter in high school. I think Cal and Tyler are right to think he should keep shooting and he may break through from what has been an epic slump.

    • cats paw
      11:06 am March 2, 2016 Permalink

yes, his shooting was better for one game. hope it continues! but how many dunks and rebounds did we give up last night by not having 3 bigs on the floor? IMO, and extra 6’9 guy is more valuable than an extra guard that doesnt require being guarded.

    • ukjaybrat
      11:06 am March 2, 2016 Permalink

I don’t know if it was a caller, tweeter, or poster. But, someone said he has grown so much (muscle-wize) since high school that maybe he is just having a hard time adjusting to his new body and it affected his shot. I think this is the most probable explanation. i sure hope he finds it.

But yes, last night he looked great. (maybe he already found it)

If someone makes a legitimate suggestion u must ridicule them making it seem like they said they know more then Cal even though the person is not saying that usually !!! If u follow these foolish middle school rules u may then not get trolled by JDUB and her crew of Cal and Matt Jones fanboys and girls… at one time I hoped this would end and we could discuss games honestly but theses ppl like JDUB just wants to look like the most loyal fan problem is she looks more like the most ignorant fan !!!! JDUB keep up trolling everyone who has a different opinions …you almost succeeded used to be like 60 different ppl posting here now it’s the same old 10 trolling fanboys lol u guys are always on here if the thread is way less popular now then it used to be lol wonder why ?? If you want to discuss basketball, then discuss basketball. You, however, went on a massive incoherent rant against me personally. No one has to agree with me all the time; I enjoy a good debate. I have no problem with fair criticisms, but cats paw doesn’t make fair criticisms, he just bashes all the time. You can call me a homer all you want, but criticizing the team you supposedly support and are a fan of doesn’t make you a better fan.

It gets really funny reading the comments here.

Some people think that if you say 1 negative thing against a player or coach, then you are a troll. I agree that some comments about players cross the line. However, stating that Briscoe can’t shoot is simply the truth. He shoots 14% from 3 range and 42% from the foul line. He does shoot 42% overall from the floor due to his ability to drive and hit lay ups.

Briscoe is a very good rebounding guard. But to act like he is a better at rebounds than Willis based on average per game is misleading. Briscoe does average 1.2 more rebounds per game but he also averages 15 minutes more per game. He averages more pints a game, but again, he averages 15 more minutes a game.

If you look at conference play alone. Willis averages more rebounds and more points per game while averaging 9.5 less minutes a game.

Briscoe does good things, no denying that. Willis does good things, no denying that. Fact is Briscoe is very limited offensively and there are games that it hurts us. Even the least knowledgeable fan, should be able to see this. Same thing with Willis and defense. There have been games where his defense hurt us.

It is what it is. Both players have different skill sets and both have helped us in different games.

Everyone isn’t a troll, but cats paw most definitely is. He’s been on an extended hate campaign against Briscoe and Murray. He never misses an opportunity to bash various cats but slobbers all over Petrino. You make well reasoned arguments, which I can handle. Cats paw just bashes all the time.
