After blowing a 4-2 lead in bottom of the ninth inning last evening, the bullpen responded tonight with some really solid work. Michael Lorenzen relieved Anthony DeSclafani in the fifth inning and threw 1 2/3 innings for his second consecutive productive outing. Lorenzen earned the win while Raisel Iglesias locked in the save for the evening.
The Cardinals were leading 2-0 heading into the 6th inning before Matt Davidson blasted a Grand Slam into the left field stands to give the Reds a 4-2 advantage. The Home Run was Davidson’s third long ball in four plate appearances.

From that point on the game held to form as Tyler Thornburg, Amir Garrett, and Raisel Iglesias combined for three innings of shut out baseball. All in all the bullpen combined for 4 2/3 innings of work without allowing a hit and just one walk while striking out five.
The Matt Davidson long ball propelled the Cincinnati Reds to a 4-2 victory to move to 11-13 on the season. The Cardinals now sit at 7-8. Tomorrow’s first pitch is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. Eastern Time as Wade Miley will face Kwang-Hyun Kim in a battle of left-handers.
This will be a bullpen game for the Cardinals as Kim has just started one game and hasn’t thrown longer than 3 2/3 innings.
