Recap: Reds Come From Behind, Defeat the Cardinals 10-5

In this afternoon’s rubber match between the Reds and the Cardinals, the two teams combined for 15 runs on 21 hits. Cincinnati came back from a 5-3 deficit after five innings to win the game, and the series, 10-5.

The Reds scored seven unanswered starting in the sixth inning with a Nick Castellanos RBI single that cut the Cardinals lead to 5-4. Then, in the seventh inning, the Reds loaded the bases and scored via walks by Freddy Galvis and Tyler Stephenson followed by a Jose Garcia RBI groundout to take the lead 7-5.

Eugenio Suarez hit a solo Home Run in the eighth inning and Aristides Aquino finished off the scoring with a two-run Home Run in the ninth to set the final score at 10-5.

The series victory was the first for Cincinnati since the August 7th-9th three-game set against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The Reds are now 21-26 on the season and 2.5 games out of second place in the National League Central behind the Cardinals. The Milwaukee Brewers are a half of a game up on the Reds, as well, in the division.

Cincinnati will now return home to Great American Ball Park where they’ll host the Pittsburgh Pirates after going 5-5 during their 10 game road trip. The four-game series will begin with a doubleheader on Monday afternoon at 4:10 p.m. EST as the two clubs make up the game that was postponed due to the Coronavirus on August 16th. Trevor Bauer will take the mound in Game One against Mitch Keller of the Pirates. Anthony DeSclafani is currently scheduled to start Game Two for the Reds.
