Since we didn’t get to see UK football in action this week, I want to talk a little football. Tonight, I’d like to highlight one of Kentucky’s best former football players. Randall Cobb has had a phenomenal 4th season in the NFL. After 10 games played this season, Cobb already has 54 receptions for 779 yards and 10 touchdowns. Before the season began, he only had 13 career touchdowns. So if you’re doing the math, that projects Cobb to possibly more than double his career number of touchdowns this year. Keep in mind though, Cobb missed most of last season due to a knee injury.
It certainly helps when you’re on the Green Bay Packers, and you have Aaron Rodgers throwing you the ball. But the crazy thing is, Cobb’s teammate Jordy Nelson has 1000 yards receiving and 9 touchdowns of his own. Cobb is definitely proving to be an elite receiver at the next level.
Being a Bengals fan all my life, I can certainly tell you that he makes it worth watching the Packers. It also helps that I have him on my fantasy football team, too. Which brings me to another stat; Cobb is ranked as the 6th best WR overall in the NFL fantasy football standings, averaging 13.2 points per game so far. I’d say that’s pretty good.
Anthony Davis goes wild on the Utah Jazz
If the game had ended earlier, Davis would’ve got the highlight of the night. However, the game just finished and wow, did Davis have a career night or what? Davis ended up with a career-high 43 points and 14 rebounds, leading the New Orleans Pelicans to a 106-94 victory of the Utah Jazz. There’s no doubt that Davis has become an elite power forward in the NBA, no surprise to us.
Tonight’s performance puts Anthony up to 24.8 points per game and 11.2 rebounds per game on the year. The former Wildcat continues to dominate the paint, as he looks to play DeMarcus Cousins and the Kings next.
UK Hoops defeats Central Michigan in a close one
Matthew Mitchell had to sweat it out on the road this evening, as the UK Hoops team won a nail-bitter, 71-68. What was once a 20 point lead, the 13th/9th ranked Cats almost let one get away in the 2nd half. Central Michigan started to cause some problems after switching to a zone trap defense, which allowed them to cut into UK’s big lead.
Leading UK Hoops tonight was Jennifer O’Neill, who had 19 points and connecting on 5 three-pointers. A win’s a win, so the Cats will take it and look on to Illinois, who’ll they play next on Thanksgiving day.
The Cats and Cards will kickoff at Noon next weekend
Well it seemed like an eternity, but tonight the UK/UL football game was finally set for a noon kickoff. The Cats will roll into Papa John’s Stadium early Saturday morning, hoping to end their 5-game losing streak and become bowl eligible.
Being the Cats’ final bye week, Coach Stoops feels like his team will be refreshed and ready to go. It was a long stretch for UK over the past two months, playing some of the nation’s best teams (SEC) back-to-back-to-back. Hopefully the team will get the most out of this rest and be prepared to upset Louisville, who’s coming off of a 31-28 victory over Notre Dame.
