Quick Quotes From Today’s Baseball Watch Party

Team Watching Selection Show

As you probably have heard by now, the Wildcats were selected as a two seed in the Louisville regional as was announced during the NCAA Baseball Selection Show today on ESPNU. The second seeded Cats will play the third seeded Kansas Jayhawks on Friday (2:00 p.m.) at Jim Patterson Stadium on Louisville’s campus. After the show went off, a bevy of local media members swarmed Austin Cousino, A.J. Reed, and head coach Gary Henderson. Below are some hand-picked quotes for you while you cook out and reflect here on this spectacular Memorial Day:

Austin Cousino:

On the convenience of being put in the Louisville regional:

It’s a lot better than heading out to Washington or Cal Poly… It’s nice because a lot of our families can come, our friends, our fan base… It’s nice to be only about an hour away from here… it worked out very well.”

On his thoughts about playing Kansas on Friday for the first time:

“I saw they had a good team batting average… I don’t know much about them, but they’ll be a good squad three seeded… you can’t take anyone lightly in the postseason.”

A.J. Reed:

On the state of the team heading into the regionals:

“We’re doing everything well as a team right now, so we’ve got a lot of momentum going into the the regionals… we’re excited about it, and were gonna go in there and keep playing how we are.”

On the team’s confidence:

“We have tremendous confidence right now… We’re ready to go out there and play hard, and we feel like we can play with anybody in the country… We feel like we’re one of those teams that nobody wants to play in the regionals.”

On having to potentially go through Louisville to get to the Super Regionals:

“We always look forward to playing Louisville in the regular season, and now to get to (potentially) play them in the postseason is going to be a lot of fun… We’re gonna be ready for it.”

Head Coach Gary Henderson:

On his thought’s of how this seasons team has worked out:

“I feel really good about it… It’s a great group of kids… almost a complete total absence of drama all year… they’re fun kids to be around.”

On the importance of having pitchers Kyle Cody and Chandler Shepherd healthy again:

“I’m not sure you could say there’s anything more important… those two guys are important… to not have them for a significant period of time and still be able to be here today is a pretty good statement about the rest of our kids.”

On the concern of looking past Kansas to a potential match-up with Louisville:

“I can guarantee you that we will not be looking past Kansas… We’re 0-3 in the first game (of regionals), so I’m well aware of where we are… We need to win the first game.”

On Reed’s contribution’s to this team:

“I know what everybody in our league thinks of A.J., so we’re super proud of him… I’m really proud of him and what he’s been able to accomplish.
