Popular Lexington bar says “Bring Jomo Back” with banner

Belle’s Cocktail House in downtown Lexington raised a banner in support of former UK cheer coach Jomo Thompson. The banner hangs on the side of the three-story building on the corner of Market and Church streets, and Belle’s stance is very clear: “UK Board of Trustees Bring Jomo Back.”

When asked why Belle’s felt compelled to take a stand in support of the ousted cheer coach, one of the bar’s owners, Justin Thompson (no relation to Jomo), provided the following statement:

“It’s clear the administrators at UK not only rushed to judgment, but lost control of the narrative with that press conference. I believe the young men and women on the cheering team that told their side of the story after the press conference aired, was closer to the truth.

For those administrators to discount Jomo’s contributions to the university and inside this community was a shame. I guess those achievements don’t show up on the balance sheet.

We’ve asked the Board Of Trustees to look into the matter, because of their roots to the community.”

So add Belle’s to the list of supporters in Jomo’s corner.

And it’s a LONG list of supporters.

Justin Thompson also noted the banner was made possible by two UK alums: Dr. Michael Huang provided the photo and Miami-based artist Paul Hughes brought the photo to life on the banner.

They need to bring him back. That whole ordeal was rushed and they made a mistake. It could’ve all been handled much better behind closed doors and I bet anything those things would never happen again.
