Photo proof that Kyle Wiltjer really plays for Gonzaga

It wasn’t until I saw these photos that I truly accepted Kyle Wiltjer’s transfer to Gonzaga. But, as you can see, he really is a Bulldog. One of UK’s best three-gogglers of all-time is gone.

Good luck to ya, Kyle.

Hate to say it, but Kyle looks like he belongs in that jersey. White Boy University moves northeast. Good luck to him – he’s gotta do what he has to do, but I’m afraid he will be missing a heckuva a ride this year with the Cats in exchange for more PT.

You can tell he really dedicated himself in the gym over the summer. “Changing his body.” To hell with being gracious. He didn’t have the cajones to man up, hit the gym and become a UK type player. He can now be a tall, slow, weak 3. Congratulations to him. I hope he enjoys playing in Europe.

At least we don’t have to endure that st u p id Hand signs anymore……LAME
    Just stand there and smile.

I’m am a little concerned of lossing his awesome production off this team. It may mean we don’t win it all losing is irreplacable 7 minutes a game and 2.1 PPG and his 23 PPG allowed…… How will we survive

  12. Hey, he might not have had much production, but like I’ve said before, he came off the bench and popped some 3’s in some crucial spots when we needed them in the championship run. I still think he could have been a decent role player on this year’s team, but oh well, good luck to him & the Zags unless & until we see them in March.

  13. 10, yeah, I forgot that he’ll be sitting this year, so even if we play them in March he’ll be on the pine.

I loved Kyle’s offensive game. He could not be guarded. I think he had the best post moves of any UK player I’ve ever seen. But we couldn’t afford to run our offense through him, mainly because with him on the court, our opponents were playing 5 on 4.5. Could he have gotten quicker? I don’t know. Could you have gotten better a defense? Absolutely, he COULD have.

But we all should wish him the best and thank him for his contributions.

I hope that was sarcasm cause if youre serious you must have hopped on the band wagon just last year…last season I wouldmake an argument was the best post player we had-not saying much tho. But don’t get me wrong wiltjer was a great player and I enjoyed watching him play.

I’ve been watching basketball since the early 80’s. But I’ve talked to my Dad who goes back to watching UK since Issel’s day. And neither he nor I can think of a post player with better moves. Kyle was great a pivoting, could go either left or right. Never got blocked, that I can remember. Had to be double teamed when he was the focal point. He could pass the ball very well out to the perimeter or to somebody cutting to the basket. He could hit the 10-footer. It didn’t matter how quick, strong, or big his defender was, he could take it to them.

Name one player with better SKILLS! I challenge you.

You can’t say Mashburn because he was more of a point forward. Can’t say Kenny Walker, because he mainly just jumped over everybody to get his shot off. Mel Turpin? Maybe, But I that was as a senior when he blossomed, but I don’t think he had Kyle’s skills. Who else? Antoinne Walker? Maybe…very quick, and good moves to the basket, but his key was his quickness, not necessarily his moves (‘cept his shimmey after some made baskets). Help me out, I can’t think of better post players SKILLWISE. The only other ones that come to mind was Boogie. I’d give him a grade A too, but we DID run the offense through him often. Kyle didn’t get that chance as much. Again, because he couldn’t play defense.

    11:31 am September 26, 2013 Permalink

He does belong there. Where he has no competition to push him and force him to be at his best like he would at UK. He is weak minded and was afraid of competition. Not the kind of player we needed at UK. Best of luck to him but could really care less. Besides, it seems Derek Willis is a helluva better than people thought so he may have eaten into Kyles minutes anyway.

Does anybody happen to have Wiltjer’s field goal percentage in the post this past season? I remember him not being too effective finishing. An actual statistic would be great to validate that. I would explain some of the double-teams or help-downs could be attributed to the lack of a consistent 3 point shooter allowing the D to sag down to help. He was a pretty good passer, had a few pretty good moves, and wasn’t a great finisher.

Wiltjer will never be a good defender, but if his body changes he might be good enough. His foot speed is really his biggest problem, followed by musculature – these things are hard to change, no matter how much time you spend in the gym. Some guys have a lot more difficulty putting on muscle than others. After a year of work and age I suspect he’ll be stronger, but the footspeed will always be a problem. He’s just not a super-athlete like a lot of his peers.

All this being said, I think he is going to be a 20+ ppg scorer for Gonzaga next year. Unfortunately he’ll likely end up playing in Europe, not the NBA. That’s not a big negative, only the elite of the elite players can hack it in the NBA, most of them being elite athletes as well.

    Kyle will be missed.

Instead of sulking on the end of the bench, while not playing, He was in every huddle shouting encouraging words to his team mates. Celebrating the good plays with high fives and giving his all while playing in the game. He may not possess the speed of a John Wall or the toughness of a MKG but he always gave 110% and was an asset to the team both on and off the floor.

Best of luck to you Kyle and I hope when you do play you put up big numbers. You’re smile and turtle man ways will be missed. Thanks for wanting to be a Wildcat, sorry things didn’t work out for you.

It’s a sad day. Kyle was a fan favorite… He came up with some big 3’s in crucial situations, and obviously it seemed like he couldn’t guard a lamp post, but his defense started to improve a bit as the year progressed. You can’t blame the kid for leaving. He will have a better role for the Zags and can really be a key player for them. Best of luck to you, Wiltjer!

You people have to be the most disrespectful bunch of Cats fans I’ve ever seen. Your sure as hell didn’t mind when he was here popping treys at an above 40% clip in 2011-12… He transferred for more playing time. He was facing the impossible task of beating out Poythress, Young, Lee and Randle for playing time. He transferred to Gonzaga. GOOD FOR HIM. He’s already a NATIONAL CHAMPION, something you all will never be. Maybe he wasn’t what we expect in 2012-13, but what he did for us in 2011-12 was irreplaceable. When that dude came off the bench, you knew a 3 was going through the net… He can flat out shoot the ball. He didn’t have the floor general he had in 11-12 to be as good this past season. So get your head out your a$$es and show the man respect. He helped win us a title. There is only 2 schools on this planet that would make me hate him if he went to and that’s UofL and Duke. Be happy he didn’t pick one of those junk a$$ schools. Pathetic people. Gonzaga fits him nicely. I wish him the best of luck, y’all should as well.

However, these people are thankfully just a tiny minority – very noisy, but still a tiny minority – just like the “fans” who cringe at the thought of the 1998 championship game and seem to wish it was off the books because Tubby Smith was the coach, and come up with a bunch of other nonsense. I guess now the same ones want the 2012 one off the books like that one because of Wiltjer’s contributions to achieving it.

Good luck, Kyle. You are missed already.

As it was said, “You gotta do what you gotta do”, and Kyle W. felt like he didn’t want to compete with the players that Coach Cal had coming in this year. I can’t blame him and neither should “ANYONE” else. He has a NCAA Championship ring and got to play with one of the best teams in UK history. Now maybe some of that knowledge can help his new team and I for one hope so. He will always be a Cat to me as long as he isn’t playing UK. I wish him the best.

I have been a BBN fan since I went there in 1972 (graduated in 1976). I liked Kyle Wiltjer and hated that he left, but his contribution, although significant, was limited. Last year he was the ‘go to’ post guy, because the rest of the team was pitiful. Anyone who says he was the best post guy ever at UK does not know much about UK basketball. I could name 20 post players who were better, but it would not be a good use of my time, nor appease those who are haters. I do wish Kyle good luck with Gonzaga. It is probably a better fit for him. I hope the move is good for Kyle and I wish him success in his career, whether it be in basketball or in media. I will miss his U-tube posts with the WBA and his fellow goonies. Good luck Kyle, you will always be a member of the BBN.

Good grief, what a bunch of cry babies! Wiltjer will get onboard with the Kelly Olynyk Clinic transformation plan at Gonzaga and end up a first round NBA pick.

He saw the writing on the wall….he was an All-American, getting recruited over. His PT was going to vanish to nothing. So, Calipari pretty much forced him out. he wanted to play, he is a good player, so why not tranfer closer to home where you can play?

Disturbing how you all loved him but whe he tranfers you turn into haters……maybe he transferred in part because UK fans are like that, hmmmm.
