P.J. Washington became the second five-star post player to commit to Kentucky today when he threw on a UK hat (without the Crooked-K) during tonight’s ESPN Signing Day Special. Washington described how John Calipari convinced him to come to Kentucky.
“The way Coach Calipari uses his players and gets them to the next level, I felt that would be great for me,” Washington said.
Calipari’s recent pitch has been the “position-less” player. It worked for Washington. “He told me he would use me like Trey Lyles and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. He’d play me with no position to just dominate the game.”
It wasn’t just about what Washington could on the court at Kentucky, it was about joining the Kentucky family. Washington attended Big Blue Madness and witnessed it firsthand.
“It was great. The fan base was amazing. I got to see many of the past players and it just felt like a big family.”
