The third-ranked Kentucky Volleyball squad returned to the court today in Athens against the unranked Georgia Bulldogs; and for the seventh straight game, UK won in straight sets, 3-0. They’ve also won 24 consecutive sets, with their last loss in a single set coming against then-top-ten-ranked Missouri.
After rising a spot in the rankings following their drubbing of Arkansas a couple of weeks ago, Craig Skinner’s club continued its dominant ways with a road smacking of Georgia.

It was a balanced offensive attack from the ‘Cats all day, with Avery Skinner, Ahzani Tealer and Alli Stumler were at the forefront. In the first set, each of them had a pair of kills early to double up the ‘Dogs 16-8 by the midway point. The lead was extended to 20-10 and UK finished them off 25-11 in set No. 1.
The second set wasn’t a whole lot different. Ahzani Tealer caught fire and rallied off a few vicious kills as Kentucky pushed the lead to 17-8 before letting off the gas a little bit, still winning the set by double-digits at 25-15.
Like we’ve seen with this group all year, the intensity wasn’t quite as strong in the third set and the Dawgs hung around a little bit longer than Coach Skinner would’ve liked. Alas, with Georgia pulling within six at 23-17, Kentucky finished them off, as Avery Skinner rifled a spike off the outstretched arms of a hopeless Bulldog blocker, ending things in Athens, 25-17 in the third set, and giving the Cats another comfortable 3-0 victory.
The offense was typically dominant, with Skinner and Tealer each recording nine kills, and Stumler leading with 11. Gabby Curry and Lauren Tharp led a great defensive effort in the back row, with Curry getting 11 digs and Tharp eight. At the net, the younger Skinner, Madi, setter Madison Lilley and Elise Goetzinger all finished with three blocks. Lilley also finished with another crazy assist day, tallying 28.
Overall, the Bulldogs were held to a negative hitting-percentage, marking the first time this year UK has held an opponent in the negative. Again, a stellar defensive effort for an offensive-minded club.
UK Volleyball is now 11-0 (all games vs. SEC competition) and they’ll be back in action tomorrow at 3 p.m. for their second bout against Georgia. You can watch the game on SEC Network+, although I was able to stream the game online without a plus account, so give that a try if you don’t have ESPN+.
Another fun win in the books and I’ll be back tomorrow with coverage of what is likely to be Kentucky’s 12th win of the season.
Until then enjoy some highlights!
