No. 13 UK women’s swim team beats No. 19 Louisville

Kentucky has defeated Louisville, again. The UK women’s swim team earned a win over the Cardinals Saturday, finishing the rivalry meet with a 160.5-139.5 win in Louisville. The victory marks the third year in a row the lady Cats have come out victorious over the team from down the road.

The No. 25 Kentucky men’s team lost to No. 10 Louisville, 165-135.

The Kentucky women’s team got off to a hot start in the dual meet, winning gold in the first four straight swimming events and the 1-meter springboard diving event. After gaining valuable momentum at the very beginning of the meet, the women’s team finished the day with a first-place finish in nine of the meet’s 16 total events – swimming and diving combined – including three 1st-2nd-3rd place sweeps. The men’s team earned six of 16.

Here are the highlights:

The Kentucky swimming and diving program will host Cincinnati on Friday, Jan. 31 at 4 p.m. for senior day. Fifteen swimmers and divers will graduate the program at the end of the semester.

As someone trying to become a better swimmer, these individuals are so truly skilled. I’ve been training to join the Air Force as a PJ, and ship out in April. I never knew how much went into becoming an amazing swimmer until now, and I truly have a much greater respect for these amazing athletes. SO much time, discipline and training goes into becoming an elite swimmer. Congrats, Cats!!!
