We should just talk props to NKU and lessen any pre game hype. Then, roll out the stops for Sunday’s game. Really great NKU made the tourney

There were hardly any true upsets yesterday. Really odd for the first day. Northwestern/Vandy wasn’t an upset special. I didn’t think Xavier/Maryland was that much of an upset. Middle Tennessee was probably the only true upset in the 5/12 match-up.

On that topic, is there a more lucky team in the NCAA than Northwestern? Won two games late in the season that they probably should have lost.

      And funny thing Laker…
The Midd Tenn win was from a Vegas favored projection. To further your point…

That is true. Weren’t they like a 1 point favorite? I had forgot about that initially. Richard Pitino is vastly overrated.

By the way, Laker Cat, almost a good call on the UNC Wilm-Virginia game; that was much closer than I would have thought.
But hey, my bracket’s still perfect.

I think NKU deserves our best. Our best effort, and our best smack talk. We will destroy them…but I’m so happy they made it.

Gutsy performances by UNC-Wilm, Bucknell, and Princeton.
Got to feel bad for the Vandy player….worst I’ve seen since Fred Brown of Georgetown mistook NC’s James Worthy for a team mate and passed him the ball when they were 1 point behind, and less than 10 seconds left in the game. That qualifies as your “worst day ever”.

I don’t think the Vandy foul was that bad. There were 16 seconds left, Northwestern was going to hold for the final shot and win if they made it. Vandy’s foul extended the game for them. The real mistake, in my opinion, was shooting a 30 footer with 5 seconds on the clock. He should have driven in, tried a contested shot and maybe get fouled and/or make the shot to win.

    • runningunnin.454
      10:34 am March 17, 2017 Permalink

That’s right. LaChance just dribbled the clock away, I thought what is he doing?
I long shot is also going to kick way out, leaving no chance for a put-back.

I understand logistics and story lines, but man I hate playing another team I want to do well for themselves in the first round. I’d rather they put them with Louisville so I feel alright cheering for them. Congratulations to the Norse of NKY!

Glad I wasn’t the only one who caught that. Matt’s already somewhat-tenuous grasp on his man-card slips even further. A love for fake wrestling in no way makes up for a lack of expertise regarding perhaps the greatest pair of movies in history. GF3 doesnt count.

The biggest error was Drew calling their last timeout at 730 mark. A tv timeout was on the way and they werent really down that bad at that point. Terrible coaching decision

I got a chuckle out of Matt talking about UK needing to be aggressive and “step on their throat”, because it reminds me of what I deal with coaching girls’ juniors volleyball. All of the testosterone driven euphemisms that might work well to fire up a bunch of teenage boys doesn’t always work for girls who have grown up being told the value of being “nice” to people. It’s funny, because I am always telling them that they need to release their inner “bitch mode” on the opponent. πŸ™‚ Last year I was on a tear during a timeout, and I was going to use the wolf versus sheep comparison. I was meaning to tell them that we need to be the wolf, and not the sheep, and it started off with me yelling, “Hey ladies, right now we are playing like shhhhh—–” and when the “sh” sound was coming out of my mouth, I looked down to see my own daughter recoiling in horror at what she thought I was getting ready to say. We all had a good laugh, and it actually loosened everyone up enough to play better and win the match. πŸ™‚

I don’t coach girls for that reason. I’m not good at relating to them in frustration. LOL.

Took me well into adulthood to realize I don’t owe politeness to every jerk that comes along. If you manage to weed a little of that tendency to feel like you are supposed to be nice no matter what, some of them might be more assertive in other aspects of their life. Not a bad life lesson for a girl at that age.

LC, that’s why it’s ALWAYS good to have a female assistant coach around. No way I will ever be able to understand the intricate workings of the female teenage mind. I’m much too coarse and cro-magnon for that. πŸ˜€

Good advice, RM. The group I am coaching this year is just a great collection of young ladies. All great students and generally hard workers, although they can melt down into complete goofiness at the drop of a hat.

Can’t blame Isaac for feeling that way, but I hope he stays. Also hope he gets to the point where he doesn’t make a big mistake as soon as he gets in a game. He definitely has a short leash, but it’s up to him to prove he deserves more trust from Cal.

Right, when he rebounds, he needs to squeeze the ball and not bring it down low.
Actually, I think we could make more use of his 10-12 foot jump shot.

Stoops should recruit the “husky” Taylor Co male cheerleader for his offensive line. Anyone that big with that kind of dexterity and athletic ability might be a good lineman. Bet Matt Elam can’t do that!

When your up 1 you don’t foul. I read a post that said that was a smart move and i disagree with that. Fell sorry for the kid but isn’t Vandy a school where only the smartest players can get in.

I hope an SEC team brings him in. It’d be a win win. We get to still enjoy his goofiness, and he’d probably make a team better.

Crean to LSU would be funny; from a basketball school to a football school…and first game, there’s 800 fans there.

  21. To that last caller: I don’t think anyone thinks we aren’t capable of beating anyone on a good night. It’s the draw we got, and anyone can have a poor night of shooting, defense, turnovers, etc.

I say Bobby Knight to Indiana . No really do you think they will try and get Alford?

    • Laker Cat 18
      11:36 am March 17, 2017 Permalink

Try? Yes. There’s only 1 reason Alford returns and it’s the whole “home state” thing. He’s taken a premier program back toward the top of it’s peak. I don’t see it happening without more $ being thrown his way. Man, that would jack up the Ball family plan.

  27. secrick

I would say Mr. Ball thinks he could probably coach the UCLA team as good as Alford can.

    • D0nc0smic
      11:46 am March 17, 2017 Permalink

I don’t know if Indiana would be interested, I don’t think he is a very good coach. I think he would take the Indiana job in a second, his son is graduating and Lonzo Ball is entering the draft. UCLA is going to be terrible next season, and whoever is the coach will have to either play LiAngelo Ball, who is terrible, or deal with the obnoxious father complaining to the media every day about how the team would be winning if LiAngelo was playing.
