NBC developing a bourbon-themed sitcom set in Kentucky

The Bluegrass and its famous bourbon are headed to network primetime.

According to Deadline, NBC is developing a half-hour sitcom about a bourbon distiller from Brooklyn that moves to Kentucky to take over a family-owned distillery. The comedy, entitled Sour Mash, is the brainchild of Michael Gagerman and Andrew Waller, who teamed up to write the 2014 buddy comedy Search Party. Here’s the series description from Deadline:

“Sour Mash is about a brilliant Latina chemist from Brooklyn with a passion for making bourbon who is tapped to become the master distiller at a failing family-owned distillery in Kentucky. She finds that making great bourbon is easy compared to dealing with the eccentric family that hired her.”

Sounds like a recipe for laughs! Hopefully the writers don’t dip too much into stereotypes (hillbilly jokes and banjo music) with that “eccentric family.” (Looking at you, Vanderplump Rules: Jax & Brittany Take Kentucky)

Pretty sure you can expect some stereotypes. Not getting my hopes up.

This eccentric bobby will probably include some variation of a “Uncle Bobby” who just learned a couple weeks ago how to properly apply toothpaste to this toothbrush

Is it a trans-Latina Ponykin? I hope so, otherwise I’m not wasting my time with such bigotry.

      Why was this necessary?

It’s gonna be Green Acres with Kentucky playing the role of Hooterville. Hollywood is capable of nothing better than that.

Ha, I’m sure there be plenty of redneck comments about her accent and how women shouldn’t like bourbon, blah blah blah. Just another white hit piece.

I know, right? It’s like they think the few people who do watch broadcast tv watch something besides a reality show.

Cal will see this as a recruiting opportunity and make a cameo. Little Ricky from Louisville will also see the possibilities but he will be turned down and appear on The Walking Dead instead. He will not need makeup.

They may entitle it “Bourbonly Hillbillies”, or “Maker’s Mork”, maybe “Wild Turkeys” or “Buffalo Tracey”.
