It was a Bob Baffert sweep at Oaklawn Park today.

After the legendary trainer saw his horse, Charlatan, take home the Arkansas Derby Division I victory, Baffert also saw Nadal – the race two favorite – come away victorious in the Division II race.

Coming in as a 5-2 favorite, Nadal finished with a final time of 1:48.34 to win by two-and-a-half lengths. As impressive as Charlatan’s run was earlier this evening, Nadal – under jockey Joel Rosario – finished his Arkansas Derby run .15 seconds faster.

King Guillermo came in second, followed by Finnick the Fierce in third.

A $1 double earned bettors $14.20, while a $1 exacta earned $10.70. A $.50 trifecta earned $122.90, and a $.10 superfecta earned $126.37.

Here were the post positions and final odds going into race two:

  1. Finnick the Fierce (15-1)
  2. Saratogian (50-1)
  3. Storm the Court (6-1)
  4. King Guillermo (3-1)
  5. Nadal (5-2)
  6. Code Runner (50-1)
  7. Silver Prospector (10-1)
  8. Fast Enough (12-1)
  9. Taishan (15-1)
  10. Farmington Road (12-1)
  11. Wells Bayou (7-2)

After being pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Kentucky Derby is now scheduled to run Sept. 5.
