More on the possibility of adding Marques Bolden

As hard as it is to believe, John Calipari may add one more player to his already astonishing 2016 recruiting class. The potential addition is Marques Bolden, who just so happens to be the best center in the country.

Seriously, Cal?

Today, Jerry Meyer of 247Sports weighed in on the chatter going around that Kentucky leads for Bolden’s services. Meyer isn’t ready to name UK the frontrunner, but he admits he is hearing that is the case in at least one circle:

247Sports is hearing that there are people within Nike, which is the sponsor of Bolden’s travel team Pro Skills, who believe that Kentucky is in fact the leader for Bolden. Kentucky point guard recruit De’Aaron Fox, who is out of Katy, Texas, is also trying to lure Bolden to Kentucky to play with him. [247Sports]

On the contrary, Meyer has heard conflicting opinions from other circles, which he believes may also be true. This is the case of different beliefs across the board regarding Bolden’s future.

What we do know is Duke, Kansas and Kentucky are competing against each other — all three are squarely in the mix —  and a decision could come at any time.

We’re not getting him. I believe the report to be false as just a means to get people interested again and create a ‘media buzz.’ He’s going to KU or Duke. I would love it if we somehow got him but nothing really indicates that.

As it says in the article: “A decision for either Duke, Kansas or Kentucky would not surprise me”…and thats how I feel. Also in the article: “It also would not surprise me if a decision from Bolden comes before the end of this calendar year.”

Counting next years signees, how many scholarship players will we have? What is the NCAA scholarship limit?

      Max of 13.

      Locks for scholarships are:
      E. Adebayo
      D. Fox
      M. Monk
      W. Gabriel
      S. Killeya-Jones
      T. Wynyard
      I. Humphries
      C. Matthews
      D. Willis
      D. Hawkins
      M. Mulder

That’s 11. We can safely assume that Skal, Murray and Poythress are gone next year.
So in order to get Bolden, more than one of Ulis, Briscoe and Lee can’t return.
I’d be glad to have him, but give me two of those three instead any day.
What could be interesting is if Bolden committed, and more than one of those three guys want to come back. Who loses a scholarship? Mulder? Idk but it’s worth keeping an eye on

Jerry Meyer is almost as out of the loop as Clark Francis. I don’t trust much that he says.
