Monday’s Top 10: Bowden, fun weekend in Lex, losing an Emmy and more

It was a weekend full of fun in Lexington with UK Football Fan Day taking center stage on Saturday and Ice Cube bringing one of his good days to Rupp Arena on Sunday.

If you were too busy doing something else and missed out on all of the excitement, catch up on the weekend’s top stories on this sluggish Monday morning…

1. Biggest news from the weekend: Lynn Bowden is on the team.

UK Football Fan Day 2017 was a big success on Saturday and it came with the exciting news that Lynn Bowden is good to go. Mark Stoops said his prize wide receiver signee is 100 percent cleared and eligible to play college football next month, which stole the headlines from the Cats’ first big scrimmage. Bowden did not, however, participate in the scrimmage, where Kayaune Ross and Dorian Baker were your star receivers; Benny Snell was Benny Snell; and Stephen Johnson looked like your starting quarterback.

For more from the scrimmage, check out Jack Pilgrim’s recap here.

2. Check out our photo gallery from Fan Day:

Dr. Michael Huang Photography was at Nutter Field House and practice this morning to give KSR fans behind-the-scenes coverage of UK Football Fan Day.

3. Here’s a video from Fan Day, too:

The UK Football Twitter account shared the best of the sights and sounds from Saturday.

4. Football camp picks back up today with the start of Week 2.

There will be no media availability today, but we’ll get back to the football talk with Eddie Gran and players from the offensive side of the ball take questions after Tuesday’s practice.

5. The BIG3’s stop in Lexington looked like a good time.

Sunday’s basketball action in Rupp Arena looked to be a good time (despite Allen Iverson’s absence) as Ice Cube and the BIG3 entertained over 8,000 fans in attendance.

Afterward, we learned Kenyon Martin grew up loving Kentucky basketball:

“As a kid, you idolize Kentucky basketball,” Martin said. “Rick Pitino was an iconic figure here, that’s who I wanted to play for then. He left and went to the Celtics, and then they brought in Tubby, so I decided to go to the University of Cincinnati. It’s one of those things where if you didn’t grow up liking Kentucky basketball, you weren’t a basketball fan.”

There was also a four-point contest between Rex Chapman, Rajon Rondo and Michael Rapaport.

6. Someone got a tattoo to commemorate UK’s 2018 National Championship.

Oh boy. I bet you haven’t seen the last of that one. Let’s hope he knows what he’s doing!

7. Hey Kentucky! did not win an Emmy.

We were left heartbroken and embarrassed after the Ohio Valley Emmy Awards in Lawrenceburg, Indiana on Saturday after Hey Kentucky! failed to take home the hardware. Not only were we upset over walking away empty handed, but it was the longest, most boring even I’ve ever attended in my entire life. I don’t know what’s harder: knowing we’ll never get those six hours back or having to live another year of our lives without an Emmy. But we’ll be back next year to do it all again and we won’t settle for anything but the trophy.

8. Last night’s episode of Game of Thrones was…

I’ll leave it at that. Hashtag no spoilers.

Then tonight we find out if Rachel picks Brian, Eric or Peter in the Bachelorette finale! Anyone? Just me? K.

9. There was a Matt Jones sighting behind home plate at the Reds game.

Matt didn’t let his Emmy failure keep him down. He was sitting behind home plate the very next day, doing his best to make the Cincinnati Reds game interesting.

10. Kentucky Sports Radio is at Maker’s Mark today.

Matt Jones and Ryan Lemond are in lovely Marion County for the third stop on the second leg of the KSR Summer Tour ’17. They’ll be doing a live remote broadcast of the show from the Maker’s Mark distillery beginning at 10 am.

The good news for tattoo guy is that he can always just let his back/shoulder sweater grow out and hide it if things don’t work out.
