Yesterday, John Calipari started his run at the Nike Peach Jam by watching Mohamed Bamba, a 6’11” power forward/center from New York. Bamba plays for the PSA Cardinals alongside fellow UK offer Quade Green, and is considered one of Calipari’s top two or three prospects in the entire class. Why? According to Bamba, John Calipari considers him the “next Anthony Davis.”
“[Kentucky’s] message has been simple,” Bamba told 247 Sports’ Andrew Slater. “Actually, Coach Cal says I’m the next A.D., which is a huge compliment.”
Umm, ya think? Bamba said he was incredibly flattered by the comparison since he believes Davis “is probably going to the Hall of Fame.”
Bamba’s body holds up to that comparison. At 6’11”, Bamba has a 7’8″ wingspan, which is even longer than Davis’ 7’5.5″ wingspan when he was at Kentucky. He’s not just a freak of nature, either; Bamba is an honors student who recently attended the MIT Analytics conference to better understand the analytics of the game the business side of the game. In turn, he’s also considering Harvard, along with Duke and Villanova. The more I read about this kid, the more I like him.
Bamba, Green, and the PSA Cardinals will be up first thing at 11 a.m. on Court 1 vs. CIA Bounce. Here are highlights from their win over Nike South Beach last night:
