Mike Thorne is visiting Illinois today

The Mike Thorne Transfer Tour hits its second stop today in Champaign for an official visit to Illinois. Illinois is one of the four schools Thorne is considering for his final season of college basketball, along with Kentucky, Kansas and Pittsburgh.

The former Charlotte 49er big man checked out Pittsburgh last weekend. He will travel to Kansas for a couple days next week, then wrap things up in Lexington on his fourth and final official visit next weekend. A decision will come soon after that.

With Stephen Zimmerman’s commitment to UNLV last night, Thorne is the last hope to add another body to Kentucky’s frontcourt next season. The Cats could use some more muscle to join Skal Labissiere, Marcus Lee and Alex Poythress inside, so he’s kind of a big deal.

Eason Ingram just chose Bama. Played the shell game with UK hat then put on Bama hat. Even Bama sportscasters down here don’t know if Cal actually offered.

      Dazon that is. Keyboard troubles!

He actually acted like he was putting on the UK hat and put it down and put on the Tide hat.

I don’t like our history with transfer students. I guess Derek Anderson and Walter McCarty are the exceptions but we haven’t had much luck with transfers.

When I think of Julius Mayes I just remember that lazy pass to Nerlens and then he watched as Nerlens ran down to attempt to erase the mistake and ultimately blow out his knee.

McCarty did not transfer. He sat a year because of Prop 13.

Kyle Macy? Travis Ford? Also, you can’t blame Mays for Noel’s knee. He just came down wrong. It was a freak accident and could have happened at any time.

No one knows what’s going on with Maker’s recruiting, but there could be some eligibility issues.

Plus he is not good enough to help us this coming season, especially on offense. He is not strong enough or skilled enough to be any impact as a freshman against even decent teams. He is very raw and would be a great get for 2 to 3 years down the road though.
