Mike Thorne Jr. commits to Illinois

Well that was short lived. According to Jon Rothstein our possible replacement for Cauley-Stein and Towns, Mike Thorne Jr., just committed to Illinois. The 270 pound big man could have done some real damage down low for the Cats next season, but it wasn’t meant to be. I’ve got faith in Cal.
And the search continues…

Are we in the Bizzaro World now?
Not to sound the alarms cause I trust in Cal. But this is starting to feel 2013 esqe
Is there a lottery for the NIT finals at the Garden? #askingforafriend
These kids are weird: why would anyone want to attend Illinois esp if you play basketball & have the chance to attend UK
and people think we buy recruits … when other schools are stealing recruits from us, that should be proof enough that we aren’t paying players.
He has one year to play……if I were him, I would want minutes..decent team . top competition…
better than SEC..
I’ll look at this glass as half full hoping that he knows something we don’t about another possible commitment.
This is probably right.
News like this makes you appreciate the team we just had even more.
So he is going to Illinois without even taking his planned trips to Kansas and UK? Lawdy, lawdy, lawdy!
Get a solid, legit 3 man and lets’s go…Let’s see Cal “coach up” what he has.
The next “Jorts” may already be here.
Mulder and maybe Wynard mid term.
I’m starting to think this team will be on the bubble next season.
No, SEC is still very weak so we will get wins with the 3 great recruits coming in. Plus Ulis is awesome and hope Poythress can come up huge. We will have no room for injuries or foul trouble though. Still think we get Mulder and either Diallo or Newman. {hope for both}
Wow, so as of right now, we still do not have a small forward or true center on our roster, and the prospects are looking bleak. We don’t look much different than Florida did this past year….
We are much different than UF, younger but more talented. We have a great pg, and the 3 recruits coming in can, and looks like will have to, score lots of points. Poythress will have to step up his game. Lee can alter shots on D. Still not a title hunting team unless Cal adds 3 more quality bodies.
I don’t disagree with you, and yeah Florida is probably a bad comparison. Our talent seems to be two point guards and three power forwards. Ulis and Skal will be good. Briscoe will mostly have to play SG, which is not a position he is familiar with. Poythress will have to play SF, which he has struggled at greatly in the past because of his poor outside shooting. Lee will have to improve immensely as u have not been impressed with him at all – his only offense are dunks and his defense is very very soft. I think Matthews will be a great player down the road, but not sure I see him being able to contribute much next year. We desperately need some more talent!
briscoe was a sg, moved to the point … he will have no problem playing off the ball a little
why can’t matthews play the 3? he’s 6’5″, how many teams will we play that have a 3 taller than that?
i hope we get ingram, we need depth
I’m not trying be a smart ass but wouldn’t most power 5 conference teams have SFs that are taller than 6’5″
Duke won the championship with 6’6″ Winslow at the 4. Just sayin
I am not worried about this guy commiting somewhere else. He has one year left and probably does not want to share minutes/play behind Skal/Lee. Difference between next year and 2013 is Ulis. Cal did not expect Teague to leave and thought Harrow would play better than he did. Poor PG play and injury to Noel doomed that team. Next years team with just the guys we have now is a solid team (Cal will add a few more players). Ulis will be one of the best PG’s in all of college b-ball, Briscoe, Matthews and Hawkins will all be solid contributors in different areas. Poythress will have a good year and Willis has a chance to show what he can do. Skal and Lee inside will be very good on defense and offensively Skal looks very good and Lee can be just as effective as WCS was this year with the guard play we will have. Add any of the other top 15 guys left and this team gets even better. Have faith BBN UK will just keep on keeping on.
With all do respect that team was not very good prior to the Noel injury. Only difference is without the injury they would have probably, not a guarantee, made the NCAA tourney but would not have made it past the first weekend. And next year if we expect to contend for a title we need more than we currently have.
2013 UK lost to the eventual national champions by 3 @ YUM, so they had to at least be “good” with Noel.
Under the table goodies always will prevail over common sense. He can sit home and watch the tournament. No loss.
Kid is not that good and saw the writing on the wall that he would be behind Willis. He did not want to ride the bench here and would have a hard time putting in the hard work to get PT. he wanted it handed to him!
One can only hope the plethora of whining chicken littles here is not reflective of BBN as a whole. You guys are disturbingly hilarious.
