Michigan fans attack punter on Twitter after loss

Talk about a complete reversal! Blake O’Neill quickly went from being the G.O.A.T. to the scapeGOAT with Michigan fans Saturday night.

Michigan fans upset over the loss to in-state rivals Michigan State, who were praising their punter Blake O’Neill for a amazing 80-yard-bomb in the first quarter, quickly turned into an angry mob on Twitter telling the student-athlete to kill himself and making death threats.

And we thought the shots at Patrick Towles’ hair were bad… sheesh.

The spewing of hate towards O’Neill got so bad that Michigan athletic director condemned fans in a open letter Sunday and calling for a ceasefire on the hate against O’Neill.

“Today I awake to the shocking reality that our community who care so much about this program would send hurtful, spiteful and vicious comments to one of our students.”

Things started off well enough for O’Neill…

The drama began when Michigan State stunned everyone with a come-from-behind victory over Michigan on the final play of the game Saturday night. Michigan fans were already celebrating in the stands when O’Neill, a senior from Australia, fumbled the ball which landed in the hands of Michigan State’s sophmore defensive back Jalen Watts-Jackson who quickly dashed 38 yards for a touchdown with no time left.

Open letter from Michigan AD Jim Hackett:

Among some of the brutal tweets, fans asked O’Neill to drink bleach, return to Australia and leave the state permanently.

Some people were quick to defend the punter, including some Michigan State fans:

Michigan fans just need to hold hands and sing a round of kumbaya.

The blocked punt in that situation was absolutely inexcusable. O’Neill is responsible and should be held accountable…

I know loserville trolls spend much more time on UK sites than they do their own, what bunch of crackhead losers. These type of plays is what makes college football the greatest game, shit happens. The cats have been on both ends of plays such as this, but my favorite is, Stevie gets loose against the tards of stripperville. Now beat it losers.

Why is the Twitter sphere paying any attention to a self-proclaimed 10 yr old?

This post was executed about as effectively as Michigan’s punt. From the dangling participle in the first sentence of the second paragraph (which claims that Michigan State, the institution, collectively praised O’Neill’s eighty-yard punt) to the incoherent sentence introducing Hackett’s letter, this post manages to encapsulate the entirety of why I rarely visit KSR anymore.

    Here’s some free copyediting:

The only people taking “shots” at Towles’ hair were Freddie Blowhard and his belly (which is definitely big enough to be a whole ‘nother person).

I agree with Criswell though… as a UK fan not a UL troll, I’m feeling pretty sad about KSR right now. If Matt leaves to go chase other dreams, KSR will turn to crap, and the UK fanbase will fall apart. This site has created so much camaraderie and so much joy. It once, even amidst the ridiculousness, was pretty well put together. Yes, there was the notorious misogynist gynophobe former Matt Jones best friendy, who is thankfully gone. But when Matt started posting less, this blog has just become of lower and lower quality. Constant spelling and grammar carelessness. Not even mistakes, just flat out not caring. The best writer on the site right now is Jonathan Miller, who all the old crackers and young crackers flip out about. It’s all pretty sad. To everything there is a season, and KSR is right in the middle of jumping the shark. It makes me sad for two reasons: 1.) I will miss KSR terribly, even with the lazy/arrogant/buffoon writers, and 2.) The demise of KSR will make UL fans giddy, which I hate.

Now, to Katina Powell; the last great thing Matt Jones will ever do for the
UK fanbase. Rest In Peace, KSR, and fare thee well. KSR is dead, long live KSR.
