Memphis was on the winning side of a 99-point shootout with Cincinnati last night, but it was a Memphis fan in the front row who really won the game. Wearing nothing but khakis and a blue ‘R’ on his bare chest and belly, this guy proved there is still passion in American Athletic Conference football.
Say what you will about his physique and Jehri curl; that’s some of the best megaphone guitar stringing you’ll see anywhere. Jimi Hendrix on the megaphone right there.
Missouri comes to town tomorrow.
It’s been a long time since Kentucky entered a game against a Top 25 opponent as the favorite. The year was 2007, I believe, and the opponent was the 19th-ranked Tennessee Volunteers, a two-point underdog against the Cats. Tennessee won that game in four overtimes to clinch the SEC East and a spot in Atlanta.
Tomorrow, Kentucky is favored by two and a half points against No. 25 Missouri. After yesterday’s practice, Mark Stoops told reporters, “Looking forward to getting back out there. We’ll need to play a little better than last week. Feel like it’s been a good week of preparation, so we’ll see.”
Win this one and you’re 4-1 going into the game of the year: Auburn on a Thursday night. Bowl bid almost certain.
ICYMI: The new recruiting room is awesome.
Scroll down just a bit to see a look inside the new recruiting room in Commonwealth Stadium. Gone are the days of piling all of the recruits into the corner of Nutter Field House on game days like some kind of church potluck. Man, that old setup was SO bad.
Stoops said, “They tried to keep me out of there. For real. They kept me in my room and brought guys over to me. They knew I wouldn’t be real happy.”
He’s happy now, that’s for sure.
Oh hey, TODAY Show.
We should have Presidential candidates on more often.
Wenyen Gabriel is on campus today.
The five-star power forward out of Massachusetts is in Lexington for his official visit to the University of Kentucky. John Calipari and Tony Barbee visited him at his Wilbraham & Monson Academy on Wednesday; now he’s on their home turf to see all the UK campus and basketball program have to offer.
Gabriel’s coach told The Cats Pause, “The style of play (at Kentucky), the pace is suited to his game. He wants to be coached hard and that’s intriguing as well. Coach Cal is a guy who coaches guys very hard. And Kentucky is Kentucky. They love their basketball. It’s a great place to play.”
Gabriel plans to sign this fall. Cats looking good right now.
Bring Pope Francis to Rupp Arena!
This made me laugh. Can someone set this up?
