Today is December 18th, the day I graduate from college, but it will be awfully tough to top my December 17th.
Yesterday I spent 8 hours and 55 minutes watching Star Wars Episodes IV-VII. It was a day sluggish and glorious nerdom. Months ago I set it aside to fully embrace the Force, and it greatly exceeded my expectations. I had forgotten just how great the original Star Wars trilogy was. I won’t reveal any new Star Wars spoilers. In fact, I’m so worried that I’ll accidentally let something slip, that I’m going to limit what I say about J.J. Abrams’ first piece of the new Star Wars puzzle.
I will say this, even if you’ve never watched a Star Wars movie before (I’m talking to you, Shannon the Dude) you will enjoy The Force Awakens. You should see it and you should see it as soon as possible. I just don’t know how to move forward. How long do we have to wait before it is acceptable to discuss spoiler alerts for Episode VII? Will it be OK to talk about the movie with family on Christmas? I don’t think people should be forced to stay off social media to avoid spoilers, so I have a proposal. Much like how Matt set a deadline for everyone to watch The Gift, J.J. Abrams needs to provide the public with a date that we can begin to discuss publicly.
So much happened, I might not be able to hold it in much longer. Until then, we can talk about the craziness consuming Kentucky football, and the upcoming basketball game against Ohio State.
Mark Stoops is Looking for an Offensive Coordinator
Less than 24 hours after Mark Stoops gave his 2015 exit interview with KSR, WKYT reported that Shannon Dawson would be relieved of his duties as UK’s offensive coordinator. Dawson confirmed the report shortly after with Fox Sports and The Herald-Leader. The immediate fallout was filled with cryptic, emoji-filled Tweets from players regarding the situation. Even though many fans were ready to see him go, yesterday was just the start to an ugly breakup.
Where do we go next?
Kentucky is one of 14 FBS programs currently looking for a new coach to lead their offense. So who does Mark Stoops trust to handle his offense moving forward? It will be interesting to see if he sticks with another “Air Raid” guy, or moves to a more traditional, pro-style offense. There haven’t been too many names floating around other than Mark Mangino. I don’t know much about Mr. Mangino, except that he made a terrible Kansas football program good during his head coaching tenure. I also know that he’s a very, very, very, very, VERY large human being.
Justin Rowland is reporting that Stoops has already made his decision, and the announcement could come as early as next week. Rowland is also reporting that D.J. Eliot’s job is safe, even though there may be one more move on the staff before it’s all said and done.
The Day Ended with a Commit
After a tumultuous afternoon, the football program had something to hang their hat on at the end of the day when they picked up a commitment for the 2017 class. 3-star Florida OLB/DE DeMarco Artis announced on Twitter that he’ll spend his future in Kentucky. You can watch highlights for Kentucky’s 7th commit in the 2017 class here.
Blue Got In The Today Show
It’s pretty cool I guess, but I just can’t get as excited because The Today Show might be the worst eight hours of morning programming this green Earth has ever seen. You’re better than this Matt Lauer, you’re better.
The Basketball Team is Heading to Brooklyn
Today UK will travel to Brooklyn to prepare for Ohio State at their recent home away from home, the Barclays Center. Taking a team trip for the first time is the wood-chopper, Tai Wynyrd. It’s still up in the air if he will play or not, but I think it’s safe to bet against it. After all, Wynyrd just got to Lexington yesterday. One of my friends actually spotted him at the airport, but didn’t recognize him. That won’t be the case for much longer.
De’Aaron Fox Plays on ESPN2 Tonight
Calipari’s next point guard will lead his Cypress Lakes team against Foothills Christian at 6:30 on ESPN2. He’s put up a ton of points lately, and I’m sure tomorrow night will be no different. One of his future teammates, Wenyen Gabriel, had one hell of a Thursday night. Going up against a 6’11” post and skilled 6’6″ swing man, Gabriel had 17 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks. I hate looking ahead, but it’s hard not to when the signess are playing this good.
LeBron Sent Someone to the Hospital
It wasn’t just any someone either. After this crash landing, Jason Day’s wife, Ellie, was carted off in a stretcher. The good news — she has been released from the hospital, but it was nonetheless a very scary moment in Cleveland.
KSR is LIVE from Owensboro
If there’s one thing for certain, it’s that Ryan Lemond will be wearing the Kentucky-Wesleyan Purple at one of his 15 hometowns.
