The Matt Jones Podcast welcomes on Charles Booker, Kentucky’s youngest Black state lawmaker, a current legislator in the Kentucky House of Representatives, and a recent candidate in Kentucky’s Democratic primary for the 2020 U.S. Senate race.

Booker joins Matt to discuss his decision to run for office, his narrow loss to Amy McGrath, his quick rise in the political world and the Black Lives Matter movement, among other topics.

Highlights:

  • Booker discusses his campaign and when he started to believe he could actually win
  • How he’s dealing with such a close (and unique) loss to Amy McGrath in the primary
  • What it felt like to have to wait a full week for final election results
  • Will he help Amy McGrath in the general election? Has she called him since the primary?
  • Earlier in his career, Booker ran against one of his former mentors and employers, Gerald Neal… What was that like?
  • Booker’s continued involvement in the Black Lives Matter movement
  • How more people can get involved and feel passionate about politics, even at the local level.
  • Plus… Has anyone ever called him Chuck?

Streaming online is simple through Spotify or you can get it sent directly to your phone by subscribing to The Matt Jones Podcast on iTunes.

Maggie, where are you going to feature a republican candidate? If KSR has already done so then let me know the date and I’ll go back and read it. BTW… I am NOT a fan of the guy in the White House and comment isn’t because I have an issue with BLM. It’s an issues of representing both sides of the spectrum.

Are you serious UoKPhan? The GOP does NOT fit the KSR narrative; from the top.

Oh I no, but I think we need to keep pointing out how Matt is only concerned with his opinion. You can tell that from the call in show. BTW, I really don’t line-up with either side of the political spectrum. Hey… have you seen a sea of blue lately… they’ve been doing more UK football stories.

Haven’t listened to the show in 3 1/2 years. Once he went politics and offered ZERO alternative voices, I was done. He’s become a liiiiitle to full of himself.

I quit listening because I couldn’t stand his constant bullying of Ryan.
