Marvin Bagley cleared to play at Duke this season

The NCAA Eligibility Center officially cleared Marvin Bagley III on Friday, which gives Duke one of the best players in college basketball, if not the best.

Bagley reclassified from the Class of 2018 and committed to Duke back in August, but his eligibility wasn’t certain at the time. Now it’s a done deal and he is good to go.

“From the outset of this process, we were optimistic that it would end with the NCAA Eligibility Center certifying Marvin to compete for Duke University in 2017-18,” said Mike Krzyzewski. “We are thrilled for Marvin and the Bagley family. Their organization and efficiency were key to the successful conclusion of the certification process, as were the efforts of our Duke Athletics administration.”

Game on, Duke. Game on.

DF – That all depends on the value of that person to the University. Exceptions can be made in every situation (insert political joke about current president here).

While we love to hate on Duke I’m glad for the kid. The NCAA shouldn’t do to kids what it did to Enes… which is waiting to make a decision until halfway through the season. I think all freshmen should get a review prior to the season starting and I’m glad for his sake he gets to play. If the NCAA can’t determine by the time the season starts that’s on them, and they shouldn’t punish the kids because of the NCAA clearinghouse problems.

So it took the NCAA months to clear Lynn Bowden, who wasn’t even reclassifying, but Bagley can reclassify and get cleared in 2 weeks because Duke? smh

If you think about it Marvin Bagley made an excellent choice… of course it was pretty much the only choice. What other school would he have been cleared to play for so quickly after reclassifying, beyond the last minute!? Certainly not Kentucky.

No hate to Duke, but this is silly. I’m under no illusion that academics matters in regards to football and men’s basketball, but to those who still are…this is exhibit #1 of the complete and utter joke the term “student athlete” is.

As I said before, Bagley went to the only school where he COULD get eligible. He knew he would need to use the NCAA’s “Duke Rules” in order to make it. That was the entire reason behind his decision.

Well, he could’ve gone to UNC, too. All they’d have to do is say he’s eligible, and then tell everyone with his records to refuse to share them with the NCAA. Maybe there’d be a problem in like 10 years, but come on, they didn’t do it, and if they did, it wasn’t a big deal, and if it was, it wasn’t their fault…
