Just when we were getting comfortable with the possibility of sports returning, the coronavirus says, “Not so fast.” According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Miami Marlins’ home opener vs. the Baltimore Orioles tonight has been canceled after an outbreak of cases over the weekend. Eight more players and two coaches with the Marlins tested positive for COVID, bringing the total cases in recent days to at least 14.

The Marlins opened the season at Philadelphia, playing games Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, but it’s possible that the infections happened earlier last week when they played an exhibition game in Atlanta. Yesterday’s game took place despite the fact that four Marlins had tested positive. The team remains in quarantine in Philadelphia, where they will continue to undergo testing.

Sigh.

Not to worry. So many people are telling me that the number of cases will soon be down to zero. And as you know the virus is going to magically disappear. What a tremendously great job we’ve been doing. Believe me, bigly!
