Should be a great show with Stoops! Wonder if Dale will call in?

Big congrats to Jordan Smith! Really makes Eastern Kentucky look good. Such a great voice. I hope Matt can try to get him on the show.
WLEX I don’t think sent anyone down to Harlan to cover it, but WAVE did.

KSR should have brought Dale in to sit across from Stoops. Would have been better than Bush vs Trump. 🙂

Should be an interesting show today. Looking forward to hearing from Coach Stoops.

Why bother listening to this. Same old Stoops.

Why does Coach Stoops get so much credit as a recruiter? His recruiting classes are still ranked at or near the bottom of the SEC. It doesn’t make any difference who he recruits since he doesn’t develop talent and he doesn’t properly use the talent he has. His coaching technique is an obvious recipe for disaster.

You can be ranked near the bottom of the SEC in recruiting and still be top 25 nationally, and that’s pretty damn good. If you can’t see that the overall talent is far superior to what it was when Stoops took over, then I don’t know what to tell ya.

Of course fans want Stoops to succeed. If he has success, my team has success. I’m just doubting it will happen.

Question for Stoops: Have you made mistakes in being a first time head coach and hiring first time coordinators? Should all of you be learning on the job at the same time?

Good question. I would follow it up with “why not surround yourself with some experienced assistant coaches so you can concentrate on running the program?”

Ugh, can this please be the end of football talk until after the basketball season? I was fooled like everyone else into thinking we were finally going to be become at least decent in football, but there has been no progress from last year to this one and next season we are not likely to have any more success due to the schedule. And while Stoops has improved the recruiting, we are still near the bottom of the SEC in that area, so no football will never be a thing at UK. Let it die already.

Nick Saban couldn’t win at Ky , The bear put a jinx on us .

      10:27 am December 16, 2015 Permalink

Disagree – he could win, but the big question would be, would the fan base be patient enough to let him get the players in place that it would take to win in the SEC. You are right that Saban wouldn’t likely win any SEC or national championships with the current roster, but I feel confident that he would know that you have to have more than 8 players on the field for a punt return. 🙂

Looks like a slide back into obscurity and mediocrity for Wisconsin basketball. Goes to show the difference between a true top-tier program like Kentucky and an also-ran like Wisconsin. UK keeps on winning championships through multiple coaching regimes. No other program has won as many championships under as many different coaches as UK. That right there is the definition of sustained excellence.

Wisconsin was decent under Ryan, but other than the last two season where he caught lightning in a bottle with Dekker and Kaminsky, I never really considered them as a potential title contender.

Bo Ryan is a good coach for Wisconsin. I’m not sure he would be that good anywhere else.

    • J-Dub421
      11:01 am December 16, 2015 Permalink

He was good, but not great. Or, maybe he was great by Wisconsin standards, but not by mine. I also couldn’t stand his hypocritical whining about one and done’s, as if he didn’t try to recruit those players too.

Either way, I hope Wisconsin fans enjoyed their tournament runs the last two seasons. It won’t happen again any time soon.

Not a Bo Ryan fan at all, but I believe he won national titiles at division two. Let’s not forget that we went to the NIT after winning the title.

    • J-Dub421
      11:43 am December 16, 2015 Permalink

It was Division III. Also, we lost 7 players out of an eight player rotation, including our entire starting five, and we still would have made the NCAA tournament if Nerlens hadn’t gotten injured. There is no comparison.

We need to go to Houston and grab their offensive coordinator. They’re in the top 15 total offense, beat some good teams, and Houston is a place we can snag a coordinator compared to other schools with top offenses.

I don’t think the announcers can do as good a job from a remote location. When they are down on the court, they see stuff they don’t see from a remote. Also, the ambience helps create an excitement and without it, the announcers are hum-drum.

Watching Jorts go toe to toe with Sullinger in that game was awesome. That 2011 team made one of the more exciting and memorable tournament runs we’ve ever had.

It doesn’t sound like Coach Dawson will be the play-caller next year. Did Stoops give a hat tip to Texas Tech OC Eric Morris?

Stoops pretty much confirmed what I already thought, they basically told Towles that they were going with Barker next year.
