Mark Smith Commits to Illinois

Shooting guard Mark Smith has committed to Illinois.  The state’s Mr. Basketball will stay home to play college basketball.

Smith’s stellar senior season propelled him into the recruiting spotlight after the conclusion of the college basketball season, drawing attention from Coach Cal, Coach K and many others.  Smith played in the Derby Basketball Classic two weeks ago and planned to visit Kentucky.  After a trip to Champaign, he’d seen enough.

Moving forward, John Calipari has already picked up one postseason commitment from shooting guard Jemarl Baker.  The next shooting guard to commit could be on campus right now, Pitt grad transfer Cam Johnson.

Best of luck to the kid. Is it just me or does his shirt make him look like he has misshapen boobies?

This guy might have just thrown away money that would have served for generations in his family.

No qualms about a player staying in his homestate. And he looks like Chance the Rapper.

He looks “real excited” to make his announcement…: or maybe it’s real cold in there.

Oh well…probably wasn’t good enough at UK anyway besides riding the bench.

He didn’t look like anything special to me at the Derby Classic among a pretty mediocre pool of players. Shai (sp?) Gilgeous-Alexander owned that game, that that wasn’t something I was expecting going in.
