Malik Newman is in Minneapolis this holiday weekend with his Jackson Tigers and he took a second to answer a few questions from sNY.tv about his recruitment.
When asked about the likelihood he will attend college with Diamond Stone, Newman told Matt Gravett, “It’s 100 percent. Hopefully, everything works out, but right now everything is going good. That’s the plan – we don’t plan on changing.”
Newman said he and Stone talk at least once a week about playing together to keep it fresh in their minds.
The No. 1 overall player in the class and arguably the best scorer in high school basketball last season as a junior, Newman is Kentucky’s top target in 2015 and has been for some time. However, Coach Cal has yet to extend a scholarship offer to Diamond Stone, the other half of the package deal. Of the teams pursuing Newman the hardest, only UConn and Kansas have offered Stone.
That will likely change, though, very soon. Kentucky leads in Stone’s Crystal Ball predictions as interest picks up from both sides.
If they’re going to be a package deal, it’s a package that needs to be shipped to Lexington.
