Malik Monk is in Lexington today

Rising superstar Malik Monk, arguably the best scorer in high school basketball, is taking in the sights and sounds of Lexington today during an unofficial visit to UK. Monk, a class of 2016 prospect, arrived on campus Tuesday evening and will be a special visitor in the Joe Craft Center during this afternoon’s basketball practice. He¬†caught up with the Cats last night as well.

Monk earned a scholarship offer from Calipari last month after pouring in 40 points in a Friday night game at the Peach Jam in front of the UK staff.

He’s one we’d like to have.

Now that’s a name that lends itself to all sort of interesting nicknames and puns! If he comes to UK, does Rupp become “the Monastery”? Do we do the C-A-T-S cheer in Gregorian Chant? Does the players’ residence become “the Cloister”? Does Coach Cal become the Abbott? Does the E-Rupption Zone become the Monk-ees? Do we take a Vow of Silence (but only during the introduction of the opposing team)? Do we keep the dribble-drive or do we Monk-ee around with the offense? The possibilities are endless!

I live in Bentonville, AR and this kid is the real deal. Would love to see him in the blue and white. Looks like it’s going to come down to UK and Arkansas so we’d better not get swept by them this year. I’m done hearing Woo Pig Sooie!!! when I wear my blue.

I’m all for this. Still skeptical, given his brother’s close ties to Ark. But I’m getting a little more excited about it!
