Making The Case For Jared Lorenzen to the Jets

lorenzen-jet

NFL fans everywhere are rooting for Jared Lorenzen to New York after the Jets lost starting quarterback Geno Smith to a locker room punch in camp yesterday. Lorenzen is making the media rounds today — including a stop on Rich Eisen’s radio show and a Reddit AMA — to explain why he deserves another shot.

While Jared can do a much better job selling himself than I can, I’m here to throw in my two cents. Here’s a brief rundown of why I believe he should be on the next flight to New York…

He used to play in New York.

Lorenzen was a member of the New York Giants from 2004-07. He can handle life under the microscope of the Big Apple.

He has a Super Bowl ring.

He earned his ring with the Giants in Super Bowl XLII as the backup quarterback behind Eli Manning.

The Jets haven’t won the Super Bowl since 1968, the franchise’s only championship.

He can still throw it a mile.

Trust me. I’ve seen it.

He can still tuck it and run.

Still got it, unlike Michael Vick.

All heart, all effort.

And doubles as a lineman.

No one wears his No. 22.

Print the jerseys now.

If he owes a teammate $600, he will pay him…

… in Throwboy Tees gift cards. That’s better than cash.

Twitter supports the signing.

Jared was trending nationally yesterday, with over 12,000 retweets on his plea to the Jets.

Adam Schefter is among the many people who endorse move.

Jets fans will love him.

And they haven’t loved a quarterback since… Chad Pennington, maybe?

Do the right thing, New York.

SIGN JARED LORENZEN.

The Jets will use Fitzpatrick. Instead of going 2-5 or 1-6 with Smith to start the season they now have a chance at going 3-4 or 4-3 and still disappointing their fans in December.

Too bad he didn’t keep his fat [email protected] in shape. He may still be playing. Didn’t have enough pride to stop eating cupcakes 15 at a time.

Too bad you’re such a douche bag. Jared will always have a Super Bowl ring, what are your accomplishments? Big bad man behind those keys, aren’t ya.

Lorenzen at 250lbs would have been a helluva QB to bad we never saw it. I think he should start a reality show like biggest looser to get back to the NFL! Inspirational story!

No excuse for anyone to be that fat. He must have no discipline in his life.

At least he has a life. Already winning over you.

I love how when you call a spade, a spade, people flip out and feel the need to fight for their honor. Lorenzen is obese. He has no one to blame but himself. People aren’t saying he’s a serial killer or anything like that…they’re just saying he’s too heavy to make an NFL roster. For the people saying, “He has an NFL ring. That’s more than you’ll ever do.” That may be cool to you, but unless you’re a serious contributor to the success of that team, it’s nothing more than being in the right place at the right time.

If he can’t read defenses, he can eat them
