Mac Jones picks up an offer from Texas A&M

Mac Jones’ stock continues to rise. On Friday night, UK’s 2017 commit was invited to the Elite 11 finals, which will take place in Los Angeles June 3-5, and yesterday, he picked up an offer from Texas A&M, his 18th scholarship offer, and third from an SEC school.

Jones committed to Kentucky in July 2015, but in recent months, turned the heads of the big boys with impressive performances at The Opening Orlando camp and the Baltimore Rivals QB Challenge. A month ago, Alabama offered, but Jones maintains his commitment to Kentucky is firm. Right now, Rivals ranks him the 15th best pro-style quarterback in the 2017 class.

Texas A&M’s offer comes on the heels of a hellish week in recruiting for the Aggies. If you missed it, their top QB prospect Tate Martell decommitted, prompting assistant coach Aaron Moorehead to go on an epic Twitter rant about loyalty, which led to more decommits. I can’t imagine Jones having serious interest in the Aggies after all that given his loyalty to Kentucky thus far, but it’s an honor to get the offer, I’m sure.

Enjoy some of Jones’ highlights from the Rivals QB Challenge last month:

The guy ranting about loyalty is now going to ask other guys to be unloyal to their commitments? Interesting….

A&M’s quarterback situation is a big mess right now. Remember, they also lost their 2 top quarterbacks from last season. They transferred to Houston and Oklahoma. They also lost a third quarterback at the beginning of last season if memory serves. If I were a high school quarterback I would think long and hard about whether to consider A&M.

Considering how many 5* QBs are running from A&M like they heard a gunshot, I’m not that worried about this new offer tempting Mac

Sadly, I see it highly unlikely Mac Jones ever suits up for the Wildcats. He is like that nerdy chick who gets a makeover, becomes smoking hot, and then disses all her nerdy boyfriend and old friends. Sure maybe down the line realizes the mistake and regrets it, but does it nonetheless. Honestly, A&M with their QB situation, crazy stadium, huge crowds, football tradition, and generally being a big-time program that’s only an hour outside of the 4th largest city in America…yeah..he’d be crazy to not pick them over StoopsTroops. Especially if the Cats win only 4-5 games again and whispers emerge over Stoops heading into next year.

    • I’m more worried about Bama, but either way, it does look like he’s going to have several football schools to choose from, and that may not bode well for the Cats unfortunately. Let’s just hope we’re at least competitive this year with real signs of improvement. Too bad we didn’t have Gran & Hinshaw in place last year if the “the adults are now in charge” that Freddie has intimated is true.

  5. Remember when Sumlin was the hottest name in coaching, even being mentioned for NFL jobs? My how times can change so quickly.

On a side note: the TAMU assistant coach that ranted about loyalty on twitter–leading to like 1 or 2 more decommitments– would be looking for some other place of employ…

Didn’t Mac Jones just a week or two ago say he was hoping for an offer from TAMU? I can’t imagine that being the case now, with all the fiasco the assistant coach has caused. At least I hope that’s still not the case!

Sumlins offensive scheme prefers dual threat QBS. He caught lightening in a bottle with Manziel who did all kinds of backyard antics but since then the QB development hasn’t been all great.
Mac is mostly a pure pocket passer. Not sure how that would fit in given the scheme they run.
