LSU Cornerback Kelvin Joseph Transfers to Kentucky

Matthew Emmons | USA TODAY Sports

Matthew Emmons | USA TODAY Sports

Kentucky has reportedly sealed the deal for one of the most talented defensive backs in America.

After a hectic night at the Joe Craft Football Training Facility, LSU cornerback Kelvin Joseph has enrolled at the University of Kentucky. Justin Rowland reports the cornerback will begin classes in Lexington tomorrow.

A four-star recruit from Baton Rouge, Joseph initially committed to LSU over Alabama and Clemson at the 2018 Army All-American Game. He played in 11 games as a true freshman on special teams and in the secondary, recording 12 tackles and a crucial third down pass deflection in a victory over second-ranked Georgia.

After sitting on the sideline for the 2019 season, Joseph will have three years of eligibility remaining at UK.

Florida was considered the favorite shortly after Joseph entered the transfer portal. Instead of going to Gainesville, Joseph will be the fourth-highest ranked player in the 247 Sports Composite rankings to ever wear Kentucky blue.

Meet Kelvin Joseph

Congrats and welcome to BBN. Getting quality players and people like you has built this program. Foundation is set and all the incoming players just continue the process. Look out college football, there is about to be a new playoff contender.

I actually agree! With the schedule we have this season, we can contend for the playoff. And in the East, we can be perennial contenders for the crown. The talent we are getting is out of this world, and our amazing coaches develop them better than most. UK football…is IT! Here we come, baby! BBN here to stay!

Funny thing mashbum, Cal has been getting quality players from day one yet you hate him. There is no defense for you.

Except Cal pushes them away after 1 year, ready or not as he wants draft picks. Only ones that seem to stay are because they are not that good and they eventually transfer so we still have no experience. Been that way since year 1. I also don’t think Cal is a good in game coach, also has been proven over and over. Can’t win a title without quality experience in basketball {been proven every year}. Don’t even have to have lottery guys on your team to win a title, just great college players with experience will win titles. I don’t mind the one and done guys if he would get some great 3-4 year guys to mix with them, we would have titles.

Do you really believe that? Cuz you must be really ignorant if you believe he pushes them out the door. The only player he has done that with was DeMarcus Cousins and that’s because he was a top 5 pick. He has told several players it was in their best interest to stay and they left anyway. Guys like Marquis Teague and Dakari Johnson would probably give anything to go back and change their decisions. Cal doesn’t dictate his players like Coach K.

Also, he recruits the 3-4 years guys but he develops so well they turn into lottery picks or transfer. You really need to get a grip

Get over yourself mashburnfan1. Cal is a HOF coach and didn’t win a championship with one and dones. He brings quality young men into the program, teaches them servant leadership and changes lives. Very few coaches in this country and survive at U.K. but Cal and his coaches thrive. PJ stayed an extra year and proved he increased his draft position as have EJ and Nick who will get drafted. There are other players who’ve stayed more than year and are NBA players. Louisville surly needs some fans and U.K. doesn’t need so called fans like yourself. Have a wonderful day.

“Don’t even have to have lottery guys on your team to win a title, just great college players with experience will win titles.”

Really?? That’s ALL it takes huh? Then how come Rupp, Hall, Pitino, and Tubby didn’t win WAY more titles than 7?? How come roughly 98% of active D-1 coaches STILL haven’t won a title??

Usual lies mashbum. Is Stoops going to win a national championship? You’re such a loser, just make things up to suit your agenda…pathetic.

What happened to K the last 3 yrs with all that quality talent he had, how about Izzo and Hairpiece? Look at how long it took Bennett, with a little help I might add. Shall I make a list of all the teams who didn’t have lottery guys who haven’t won a title? You have no valid points to make so why don’t you just shut up.

“I also don’t think Cal is a good in game coach, also has been proven over and over….” Yet you are stuck in Stoops’ jockstrap? Stoops is the poster boy for poor in game coaching.

Seems like a big get, but why did he leave his hometown school where he had played the season before?

Did he just really hate the coaching staff? It’s one thing when a guy stuck on the bench transfers or when he transfers closer to home, or if his former coach is on the staff he transfers to, or if he transfers from a lesser program to a bigger one. Why’d he leave LSU?

I’d imagine Orgeron had something to do with it. Players seem to either love or hate him. I’m obviously just speculating here, but I’d think they just didn’t get along and this kid needed a change of scenery, but really wanted to stay in the SEC. He can be “the man” in our secondary. At LSU, he might get recruited over. Of course, if he doesn’t have that drive in Lexington, we will recruit over him too now. Things have definitely changed for the better in UK football recruiting. It’s a new day! Go Big Blue!

First question on the the transfer paper work to go to FL is have you ever committed a felony or shown violence towards women. He said no, they said move along.

I know recruiting class rankings aren’t the end all be all, but I am hoping we can close 2020 class in the top 20. With Kelvin added, I haven’t seen any publicized rating. Last I saw, we were 23/24.
