Louisville’s New Jackie Robinson Statue is…Something

The Louisville Slugger Museum unveiled a new statue today of baseball legend, Jackie Robinson.  I’m sure you’re surprised by the photo above.  I certainly was when I first saw Mr. Robinson.

When you think “statue,” you probably think of concrete or bronze.  Instead, the statue resembles a wax figure.  The purpose is to make it as life-like as possible, from the textures of his clothes to the type of bat he swung.  However, it’s kind of creepy from afar.

An historical orator stands adjacent to Jackie, who will be a weekly part of the new exhibit.

But I must say, the close-up is actually kind of cool.

It looks like Louisville got them a statue of Doron Lamb in his Jackie Robinson jammies.

Glad I’m not the only one who had that as first impression.

I came here to post that Doron Lamb must’ve posed for the “statue”. Didn’t know Jackie Robinson was #TeamNoSleep

It does look like Doron, also Jackie Robinson around age 15

Best response is one I received on Twitter:

“Only thing that could make it better is if the statue would quote @DLamb20 tweets!”

What would really have been interesting would have been having him in a Montreal uniform, given that he played in the LWS in 1946 or 47, twice in Lou. I remember him being darker skinned than shown here, otherwise the likeness is pretty good.
