The new face of golf is one of Kentucky’s finest.
The creators of the 2K video game series are releasing their first golf video game this summer. PGA Tour Golf 2K21 will be the first new pro golf video game in five years. The star of the show is Louisville native, Justin Thomas.
A PGA and FedEx Cup Champion, the honor puts Thomas in a distinguished category. For more than a decade Tiger Woods owned a monopoly on the golf video gaming business. Only three other golfers have graced a video game’s cover: Greg Norman’s Power Golf (1992), John Daly’s ProStroke Golf (2010) and Rory McIlroy PGA Tour (2015).
The infamous Madden curse was laughed at by Patrick Mahomes after he won the Super Bowl in February, but could there be a golf video game curse? McIlroy won four majors prior to his short stint as a cover-boy. He has not won another since. Surely, Thomas will not make this a trend. Speaking of Madden, even though he attended the University of Louisville, Lamar Jackson is on next year’s Madden cover. Rivalry aside, it’s kind of cool that two video game cover athletes have significant Louisville ties.
