Louisville to announce self-imposed postseason ban

A 1:30 pm press conference has been called at the University of Louisville involving President Ramsey, Tom Jurich and Rick Pitino. KSR is hearing the Cards are will announce a self-imposed postseason ban for the current season.

Of course the timing of the announcement is very strategic. Friday before Super Bowl weekend? They know what they’re doing over there. Put this out when the national media is in San Francisco with Peyton and Cam.

Personally, I’m really going to miss watching Kentucky beat Louisville in the tournament this year.

Good. I hope the NCAA still hammers them, but at least some punishment will happen while Rick is still coach.

This self imposed post season ban is huge, coming out of nowhere, by the university President. This is based on advice from Smrt, after the NCAA told them the evidence they have. I think this is going to be much worse for Louisville.
These violations are without precedent. The punishment may be extremely severe, using Louisville as an example to all other schools, of what to expect if their program gets caught doing the same.
      I think heads will role.

So, Rick tries to save himself by screwing over his current players so late in the season? What a clown. It’s especially brutal/selfish when his best two players signed up with just one year of eligibility and now can’t play in post-season. Class acts, Rick & Jurich are.

I’m guessing those guys, as transfers, didn’t even get the… um… “extra benefits”, since they didn’t really go through the whole recruiting process like a high school prospect would have.

Yeah, I’m curious how that changes the situation there. Would it still be considered a win over a tournament team because they WOULD make the tournament if eligible? I would think yes, but I know more about NCAA rules than I do the mysterious alchemy of NCAA tournament seeding.

They must think the NCAA has them dead to rights, I’m going to need to spend some time reading the comments section at Card Chronicle and basking in the schadenfreude.

I’m surprised KSR allows the term “Schadenfreude”…you just blew by our collective average IQ by about 50 pts…

There’s a song featuring puppets singing that could explain it to the rest… lyrics totally NSFW:

No way this happens. Maybe next year, but not for Pimpino’s last.

UNLESS, the NCAA already has given them a heads up that they’re coming after them strong.

He recruited those two one-and-dones, got ’em 2/3 of the way through the season and then screwed them. Classic Rick.

This press conference should be held by the UofL Board Announcing they are Firing the President, the AD and the Head BB Coach. All this is doing is punishing the kids on the team. At least 2 of which had nothing to do with it. What a shit show UL has become…

Yeah, that’s the part that actually pizzes me off a little bit. Yes, UofL’s our biggest rival, and I have to deal with my share of haters from their fan base, but UNC has been thumbing their noses at the NCAA for decades (along with Duke), and they are the golden boys.

Carolina has a decent chance to compete for the title this year, so you won’t hear any more about it until April, at the earliest.
