Looks like our governor is having a rough afternoon

We interrupt today’s sports topics with a little bit from the Kentucky political scene, where things got heated at today’s “Right To Work” hearing in Frankfort.

Governor Bevin, fresh off attending last night’s UK game, where he caught a free t-shirt on a beautiful throw from Ravi Moss, felt the wrath of some upset protestors in the Capitol Annex. One union member screamed “You devil!” at Bevin as Bevin made his way through the hostile crowd.

Chris Williams, a political reporter for WHAS in Louisville, has some video:

It looked like much happier times when the governor was catching t-shirts and posing with the t-shirt cannon last night.

The “protesters” are mad because they may no longer be able to forcibly take the union dues of the rank and file members they pretend to represent, if Bevin has his way. How are their employers getting any work done while they are showing off for the cameras in Frankfort? Kudos to him for having the courage to stand up to those thugs.

I try to be diplomatic, positive and see all sides; but, Rainman, you are an idiot. I don’t want that 2 class system you’re talking about. I believe that everyone has an opportunity to work hard and better themselves every day. I do not believe in giving people something for nothing. The union system benefits the senior leadership of the union more than the workers. There have been union leaders that make CEO money. Now, how is that being equal? How is it that an uneducated janitor can make more money than a college degreed professional? Why have union rules prevented a worker on line B with nothing to do from going over to line A where the person doing the exact same job is out sick? There was a time for unions, when workers were really abused, but that time has gone. Come on, a union for professional athletes? Unions do not do anything to eliminate a two class system.

“There was a time for unions, when workers were really abused, but that time has gone.”

That’s insane thinking! That’s like saying we don’t need The Clean Air Act or Clean Water Act because our air and water is clean now. You don’t throw away your vacuum after you’ve cleaned your carpet! It is amazing how some people think we don’t need to continue supporting programs and laws that have helped advance our society to make our lives because our lives are now better!

i thought KSR was a sports page. Drew, you have 0 knowledge of anything political. Stick to sports (which you’re questionable at) and those lame jokes you make. Enough with the politics on this slowly declining website. I know your daddy (Matt Jones) is a huge liberal and also quite the D-bag but lets just stick to sports, like it says in the moto “University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.” Trump won, conservatives control damn near everything, you lost now move on.

Union wages pay more than non-union wages. The states that have right to work laws, make less per hour than their union brethren. Calling it right to work… as if Bevin is doing this for the workers and not the business owners.
I bet you rubes thought Trump was really going to build a wall. Bonus points for stupidity if you thought Mexico would pay for it.

    • BlueWildcat_99
      6:39 pm January 4, 2017 Permalink

That’s right. All these guys on here talking about how awful unions are. We only have the 40 hour work week, overtime pay, holiday pay, paid vacation/sick time, and OSHA because of unions. Yeah, let’s get rid of ’em. So ridiculous that these workers are making a livable- i.e., middle class – wage. And the BEST part is that the cost of state construction won’t go down! Multiple studies have shown that construction firms bid out the prices just as high – the money just no longer goes to the workers, but the owners. I’ll get off my soapbox now… I’m sure it looks like a “liberal elitist ivory tower” from the view point of most of these fu**in idiots.

    • catdaddyd

40 hour work week was already in play, as was a lot of the others you list. I was in a union for 5 1/2 years and the pay was horrible and it only protected the bad workers.

    • BLUEsky

I’m with ya BlueWildcat_99. However, there is corruption in the union organizations as well; but, no worse than is inherent within the big corporations or government. Many get excited about this topic because the big corporations have demonized the unions over the years, and have brainwashed the population, along with certain government officials who do not have working people’s interests in mind.

People fall for these catchy phrased programs that are designed to deceive the population: “Right to Work” “The Affordable Care Act” “The Fair Labor Standards Act.” None of these programs do a d### thing for me in my current situation, and they make me sick to hear them speak of them.

IMHO, unions have been an important part of the checks and balances so to speak within the labor force.

Unfortunately, it appears that there will always be corruption at every turn, and working people will always take it in the back side unless they have a voice, which is what unions can provide IF the organization is run correctly. Right now, this seems far from where we all are at this point.

Bottom line is this: TO ALL THOSE WHO WOULD GET RID OF MINIMUM WAGE AND UNIONS, if it were not for these two things, this country would look like China on steroids. Everyone would be working for pennies on the hour except for maybe 1%, and that 1% would own everything. Salary people would be as well. Everyone would be working 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, with no time off, no FMLA because the corporations would own the government. Life in this country would be miserable. I don’t think some people get the big picture. I know a companies right now that would work people as slaves if they could get away with it. I just don’t understand how people can have their blinders on to what is happening in this country, and what could happen if one or two important changes take place.

I won’t mention any names, but there are some politicians out there that really scare me because of the power they have been given by unsuspecting people.

      Gotta stop now. Flame on!

Another hit piece on Conservatives by KSR, no surprise here.
Right to work will make KY more competitive with other southern states that already have right to work in place. When a business from a leftist state such as NY or Maryland decides to move to a different state for lower taxes etc… they will sometimes settle in a state such as Tennessee because of right to work laws.
Also this law won’t get rid of unions, it simply gives me the right to not join in.
I don’t think it’s right when top union officials decide to go on strike so it shuts the production line down and puts workers out of a job for a few weeks (or more). You want to argue about making less money? There’s your lower pay right there when you are off work a few weeks, whether you like it or not.

Well I’m from WV and I’m telling you we are fighting to over turn the Right to Work bill that was passed here. The moment it was passed a Pre-K in Crum WV (Wayne County) needed repaired so a company from Roanoke, Virginia out bid a local contractor but not by much. So a guy noticed some of the works and filmed one saying he was from Honduras and a number of the others where from Mexico. The news nor the mans personal video ever stated wither the works were American citizens or not. WSAZ ran a report about it on July 28, 2016 and the mans video is on youtube under the user name ACTFoundation if you want to check out the story.
