Guys, I have family in Louisville who always tell me that the Mcdonalds All American guys that come to UK knowing they could get more playing time elsewhere are idiots. I give them the obvious Cal’s success, players in the NBA, money earned in the NBA, practicing against guys better than anywhere. Give me some more ammo to come back at them with.

Shabazz Muhammad, Josh Selby, Xavier Henry. All highly touted recruits who went elsewhere, looked terrible, and got drafted lower than they should have and haven’t done much in the NBA.

Or guys could go to U of L, be terrible for 4 years and then go undrafted.

The Darius West injury is absolutely devastating for the defensive secondary. There is no way to sugarcoat this injury. It hurts bad. This kid would have started this season at some point because he is flat-out a freak. He is so good and the staff knew this. He would give us an elite talent at safety. He will become the type of kid who will play in the NFL and be one of college’s best players in the secondary.

    • Delk for 3
      10:31 am August 6, 2014 Permalink

Might be. I’m really bummed about this news. People don’t realize how good this kid was. Even Matt said this injury won’t hurt too bad, but he is dead wrong. Darius West is THE BEST player in this entire freshman class.

    • jay
      10:44 am August 6, 2014 Permalink

It definitely hurts this year but it will help for the long run of the program. A redshirt will help the kid but with an already thin secondary it has to hurt this year, hurts even worse that we lose a talent like Darius for a year. I was excited to see what he could do this year.

If UK really wants to start a tradition for football this year it has to be real. The only way one starts will come from a player or coach. Zadarius is the only one I think can do it now because he’s a fan favorite and a great player. Traditions can’t be started, they have to happen freely.

Currently KHSAA does not allow ANY homeschool student to participate. Look at the test scores of homeschool students…way ABOVE public school scores.

    • Josephi Verbum
      10:57 am August 6, 2014 Permalink

Home school kid’s test will almost ALWAYS be higher than public school. The biggest factor is parents who care. Home school kids obviously have parents who have care as they teach their kids where as a % of public school have poor home lives. It isn’t that they are smarter than public school kids as much as they have better situations than a % of them.

Matt, please stop talking about topics you know nothing about. Yesterday it was hillbillies without running water when it turns out they have potable water. Now it’s homeschooling…and it’s painfully clear you don’t understand how that works, how kids are taught, and that they are not isolated, awkward freaks.

    • Josephi Verbum
      11:00 am August 6, 2014 Permalink

“they are not isolated, awkward freaks.” while true due to the hyperbole they do miss out on a lot of the social aspects kids pick up from day-to-day social interactions with tens to hundreds of other children. They aren’t automatically awkward but for better or worse they miss out on a lot of experiences. I have home schooled friends who just can’t relate to the group on topics because they didn’t experience any of it.

    • J-Dub421
      11:13 am August 6, 2014 Permalink

Having potable water is not the same as having running water. You can’t shower or flush a toilet without running water. I have met many home schooled kids, they are generally very nice and polite, but also socially awkward.

  34. Joyce
    10:55 am August 6, 2014 Permalink
