Lexington’s CentrePointe is actually going to be called City Center

Last weekend I was in downtown Lexington enjoying all the city’s nightlife has to offer, and I noticed some serious construction work going on where the infamous pit was once located. Turns out, the massive CentrePointe project is actually happening, albeit a little behind schedule, and they’ve made some significant progress on the development in recent months.

But there’s a new plot twist in the process: the CentrePointe development (as it’s been known since it was first introduced like 50 years ago) will now be called “City Center.” The new name will be formally introduced a little later today, but I’m telling you now so you can tell your friends and they’ll think you’re in the know. Big time street cred there.

With the name change comes other name changes: the Marriott hotel that will take up a large chunk of the property will be called “Lexington Marriott City Center” and the office building will be known as “One City Center.”

I would tell you when it’s scheduled to be completed but we all know it’ll be another decade or seven before the doors open on that new Jeff Ruby’s Steakhouse and all the other places we’ve heard about it. At least it’s got a fancy new name and it’s not a big hole in the ground anymore, though. That’s good.

I guess the old name has become so synonymous with institutional incompetence and failure that a name change was inevitable.

City Center is to CentrePointe as Kroger Field is to Commonwealth Stadium.

Shame this building went from the tallest building in Downtown Lexington, to one of the shortest.

It seems the project will happen, despite the obstructionist Mayor, who we all know that his only claim to fame is having statues removed in the middle of the night from the old court house building.

Until the alt-right started whining about their hate filled nonsense not being well-received by most of the world, there was not one person who would have batted an eye about removing monuments to traitors and racists.

Good riddance to objectively ugly monuments that romanticize the worst parts of our nation’s history: treason, institutionalized racism, and human slavery.

    • “there was not one person who would have batted an eye about removing monuments…”. Mathlete, that is not accurate, and I think you know it.

Also, as a Christian I in no way support racism or slavery. But another inaccuracy is to use the word treason. Secession was always considered a state right. Is California treasonous by talking about secession now?

No one who wants to be taken seriously ever uses terms like “alt-right” (or the left-wing equivalent that you see in more and more conservative literature, “ctrl-left”). I just say ctrl-alt-del to all stupid labels like those.

      Yeah, the “alt-right doesn’t exist”.

      And Charlottesville didn’t happen.

The Florida school shooter didn’t have a MAGA hat.

And Sandy Hook was staged. ::eyeroll::

Fox News and Breitbart have F*CKED you guys up in the head.

Someone made a good point the other day: Milwaukee should erect a statue of Jeffrey Dahmer, because he played an important role in the city’s history, and it should be a reminder of how not to be. How are the children gonna know who he is if there’s no statue?

I love when treason gets tossed around in regards to the Civil War as if the Revolution never occurred.

The reason Mayor Gray did it overnight was so that the redneck alt-right MAGAts wouldn’t show up with assault rifles threatening everyone and/or run over people with their cars.

The thing people forget about the Civil War is that in the generation right after the war, President McKinley designated that all soldiers graves and memorial be treated the same, be they Union or Confederate. This created a policy of treating confederates like US vets, but only unofficially, until it was codified into law back in the fifties because confederate widows and children were not receiving the survivors benefits they had been promised fifty years earlier by the government.

No one cares. They wanted to keep slaves and they lost.

    • You would care if a poor and/or sickly relative wasn’t given benefits they were promised. It doesn’t matter if they lost. If they were promised a benefit, they should have gotten it.

I would never argue the case for slavery or racism. I’m just talking about historical accuracy.

    • antiquefurnitureandmidgets, you make a fair point.

Washington fought for this country, not flying a rebel flag and fighting AGAINST it.

    • Big Board, I don’t read Breitbart, but where is there a story from Fox News claiming Sandy Hook was staged, or anything else you said?

Oh, and we all kmow MSNBC, CNN, ABC, etc. are all right down the middle. Yessiree, no bias there at all.

Anyone who thinks the Civil War started and was fought over the slavery issue has only read the left-wing version of that war. It eventually BECAME about slavery in order for President Lincoln to justify the millions of dollars spent and thousands of lives lost over the question of states’ rights vs. federal authority. Should slavery have been eradicated? Absolutely. But I’ll remind all the liberal snowflakes that it wasn’t the Republicans that initiated the existence of the Klan in order to keep the former slaves suppressed, it was the other major political party. The Civil War was fought to settle the question of whether federal laws can usurp individual states’ rights, and federal law won out. Too bad the sanctuary city/state idiots like Moonbeam Brown, Kamala Harris, Andrew Cuomo, and Nancy Peloony didn’t get the memo, or apparently read much history.

    • That’s what I thought BB. The self proclaimed always the smartest guy in the room can’t prove his accusation.

Thinking that the mayor did a good deed by removing history makes me think they are likely tenured professors at UK.
