University of Kentucky Basketball, Football, and Recruiting news brought to you in the most ridiculous manner possible.

Let’s talk about the draft (Friday Show Thread)

Last night was a HUGE night for the Kentucky basketball program and six of its stars from the 2014-15 season. We watched four Wildcats hear their name called in the NBA lottery, followed by two more in the second round for a record-tying six draft picks from one school, including a record-tying third No. 1 overall pick.

On this morning’s KSR, Matt Jones and Ryan Lemond will break down the draft and the expectations of each of the six Cats.

Join in on the fun by calling (502) 571-1080.

I was disappointed Aaron didn’t get drafted. I understand why, but these folks obviously didn’t take the size of his testicles during the 2014 tournament run into account.

I understand why he wasn’t a first round pick, but I really don’t understand how he wasn’t seen as a better option than many of the second round picks. He continues to not get the credit that he deserves. I hope he proves them wrong.

For the last 2 seasons, if we needed a last second shot to win, I wanted Aaron taking that shot. No Question.

I think we shouldn’t even watch March madness any more. Uk is now all about sending players to the next level. Look at the way Cal and KSR celebrate this without ever asking the obvious question. How much f’ing talent do we need to win a title? Apparently the answer is “not enough” as Cal’s inept in game coaching in games that matter can’t be over come by an entire roster of future NBA players and all stars. But the way we make up for it is to look at NCAA Championships as secondary goals to our REAL purpose as stated by Cal and now wholly adopted by KSR, sending players to the next level. So instead of talking about seeding, and matchups, and March Madness ,we should spend all our time talking about this night, the real night that matters, DRAFT NIGHT BABY !! Woohoo, look at all our guys go. We just won the national draft title !!! Put a banner up in Rupp !!!!

It’s all about chances. Cal’s technique gives us the best CHANCE to win. Doesn’t mean we will, but it puts us in a better position than most other teams. I’ll take those odds. I expected more than 1 title in the last 6 years, but I get why we haven’t won it more. It’s random, it’s hard to run through a single elimination tournament without getting upset. If the college game were set up like the NBA with playoff series, we’d have 4 championships by now.

Agree with Laker Cat. We win 3/5 in a series against ANY team.

I think at best, all we or any other team can do is put themselves in a position to compete for a title. The NCAA tournament is a one and done tournament so there are no guarantees unless you want to go to a series (which will never happen). If a # of players go to the NBA from 1 team, that doesn’t always mean they won the title, but I bet they at least were in the running. You can’t get mad over the random-ness of the tourney. I can just about promise you that 99% of the teams in the country would trade our last 6 years for theirs, hands down. While I agree with you that we should have more emphasis on titles, we still had the best 6 years of almost everyone else.

You’re right Jay. I was about to post a comment about how if the team’s unprecedented success in the last 6 years isn’t enough for someone, they are insane. But clearly this isn’t a person who can be reasoned with.

I puposely did not reference the original poster; am very familiar with his nonsense. We have the best overall results of any team in the past six years. Not even close.

especially in the “new nba” where guards extremely important and bad free throw shooting big men who can’t guard are liabilities and sit on the bench in the last quarter of close games

Even Jay Bilas acknowledged that Okafor was really good at basically only one thing, and he is correct. Okafor can score but he is mostly a one-trick pony at this point. Perhaps he can develop the other necessary aspects of a complete game…perhaps.

    • J-Dub421
      10:35 am June 26, 2015 Permalink

Okafor lacks quickness and athleticism. I think he may struggle more than people think he will.

    • Laker Cat 18
      10:39 am June 26, 2015 Permalink

The only thing I heard all night about Okafor was the size of his hands. The man obviously has large hands, but I didn’t know that was a single qualifying factor for being drafted in the lottery. He literally can’t do anything else worthy of a top 5 pick. He scores, but everybody scores. He is probably the worst free-throw shooter in the draft and being a center, you’re as valuable on the line as you are in the paint.

If we keep sending guys to the NBA at this rate we will continue to get the top talent, which will keep us in the hunt for titles every year. That is all I can really ask for as a fan.

Who is Kentucky’s NBA team? Phoenix? How many teams own a UK player after the draft last night?

    • J-Dub421
      10:42 am June 26, 2015 Permalink

There were 17 teams with NBA players prior to last night. I’m not sure how many additional teams added a Wildcat, at least three I think. More than half of the teams in the NBA now have a Wildcat.

    • Laker Cat 18
      10:46 am June 26, 2015 Permalink

Minnesota, Utah, & Memphis I think were the three who added one. Phoenix, OKC, & Sacramento all had a UK presence.

So 20 out of 30 teams now. Not too shabby.

    • If the Kings become the Kentucky Colonels they’ll be my team. I pull for Cindy teams in the pros and they used to be there, so it would be great to have them back in the Kentucky market.

The Knicks made stupid picks last night. So did the Celtics. I can’t believe the Celtics took Rozier 16th, he’s a 30% three point shooter and undersized as a 2 guard.

  12. Everyone knows Forde is a jerk, but Cal brought this one on himself with what he said at his 1st draft after coming to UK. To this day when he’s questioned on it he doubles down, sooooooo……..

    • ukjaybrat
      11:27 am June 26, 2015 Permalink

yeah, but what he said wasn’t 100% wrong. it may not have been the greatest day in uk history “period”… but it was a milestone achievement. the draft cats opened up a door that revolutionized recruiting top talent to UK and paved the way to UK’s championship in 12 and duke’s championship this year, not to mention their success in other years… and using a comment made 6 years ago to rationalize forde’s hate is beyond absurd.

    • J-Dub421
      11:33 am June 26, 2015 Permalink

It’s one thing for Forde to take shots at Cal. It’s quite another for him to take a shot at Aaron. Aaron is a 20 year old and Forde just took a cheap shot when he’s already down. That is completely unprofessional for a reporter.

    • CATandMONKEY

JDub, calling Forde a “reporter ” is a bit like calling me, at my 47 years and current state of conditioning, an “athlete “. Honestly, I still think I might have more ownership of my title.

Forde might have rights to “provocateur” …but nothing more.
