The way I see it is, we ran into a team that was playing physical and we couldn’t match up. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Humphries get more playing time due to his big rebounds in the 2nd half and thank God for Poythress coming back! We have shown we can play with anyone and we WILL do that into the tournament, Go Big Blue!

I’m a UK fan, so of course I disagree with the call, but the rule is you can call a T in that situation. You can’t slam the ball off the court even in celebration. Briscoe got a T for the same thing last week. Kentucky never gets the calls, we have to play smarter.

The difference is Briscoe spiked it immediately after his teammate just dunked on a South Carolina player which is embarrassing to that player, and spiking the ball at that moment can be seen as taunting that player.

What Humphries did, can not be seen as taunting to another player, and was obviously not a sign of disrespect to the referee since he was the one that was fouled.

Jake Layman of Maryland missed a shot late in the game against UM yesterday and out of frustration fouled a UM player and then spiked the ball in frustration, but he caught the ball. I could see this as being seen as disrespecting the ref (although it was clear he was just frustrated) and nothing was called.

I have seen players spike the ball 30 feet into the air as time expires in a game and nothing is called.

I just think SEC officiating is at an all-time low currently. Also, in general, there are a few refs that want to be the headlining act in prime time games.

    • As Matt has pointed our numerous times, Briscoe’s went all the way to the rafters or the seats. Huge difference IMHO.

Is it me, or is a technical almost always about the ref showing the world how important they are? Kennedy didn’t deserve a tech either.

  13. No one is talking about this: go back and watch the replay of, not the call, but the refs talking after the T was called. You can easily read Adams’ lips saying emphatically (while nodding his head very emphatically) “It’s a technical foul. It’s unsportsmanlike conduct.” It’s just kind of interesting to watch the group dynamic in that exchange.

Go to http://www.ukbasketballlive.com and watch it.

    • J-Dub421

    • ukjaybrat
      11:59 am February 22, 2016 Permalink

i don’t think he meant they aren’t fouls at all. what he meant is that the line between charge and block has been (by rule) shifted more in favor of calling a block because of the rule changes. and a lot of what they were calling charges should have been blocks.

it no longer reads “when a player is in the air”
it reads “when a player begins upward motion”

so essentially, if a player has picked up their dribble and is beginning to jump, and a defender is still sliding in and posting up, that is a charge. and there were at least 3 that i can remember in just our last game where they made the wrong call (one was us even). it’s happening all across the sport.

I’m not an MD, nor did I say at a Holiday Inn last night, but the pic I saw would lead me to believe SEC tournament as the earliest he could play. Sure hope I’m wrong. The magician that worked on Jeff Shepherd’s sprain is no longer around. I’d go with my mother in law’s remedy: Wrap the sprain in strips of heavy paper bag soaked (gently ring out the excess) in vinegar. When the strips dry out, soak again and reapply. Believe it or not, it did work for my daughter in a similar situation of having to get back on the floor quickly after a bad sprain.
