#KSReds Game of the Week: Reds Look For Series Win

Emotions ran high last night in Cincinnati’s 6-5 walk-off victory against the Chicago Cubs. The benches cleared in the bottom of the fourth inning resulting in the ejections of Joey Votto, Jesse Winker, and Reds Manager David Bell. The Cubs had already lost their Manager David Ross and another member of their staff in the top of the fourth.

The incident began when Reds starting pitcher Tejay Antone threw a 97 mile per hour fastball over the head of Anthony Rizzo to begin the fourth inning. Rizzo had some words for Antone after the pitch and both benches were warned after the incident. The Cubs retaliated in the bottom of the inning throwing high and tight to Shogo Akiyama. This is when things spilled over and resulted in some non-socially distanced verbal exchanges between teams.

After the game, Cubs Manager David Ross doubled down by accusing Tejay Antone of throwing at Rizzo. Antone, who denied intentionally throwing at Rizzo, did have some comments for the Cubs dugout though. The Rookie pitcher said that the Cubs were mocking him for grunting on the mound beginning in the second inning and admitted to clapping back at them a couple of times.

Needless to say, things will be a little tense between the two National League Central Division rivals this afternoon. The Reds escaped last night with a 6-5 victory thanks to a seventh inning game-tying single from Aristides Aquino and a walk-off wild pitch from Cubs Closer Craig Kimbrel that allowed Nick Castellanos to score from third base. The wild pitch was Kimbrel’s third of the inning. The Reds victory game them a split of the doubleheader after losing Game One 3-0.

First pitch this afternoon is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. Eastern Time at Great American Ball Park. Luis Castillo (0-4, 3.62 ERA) takes the mound for the Reds as they look to win the four-game series against the Division leading Cubs. Tyler Chatwood (2-2, 6.06 ERA) will have the ball for the Cubs as they will try to avoid losing their third consecutive series.
