KSR Show Thread, 8/14: Louisville Golf Scramble

It’s KSR Golf Scramble Day in Louisville! We’re at GlenOaks Country Club, sans audience and sans Ryan Lemond, for two hours of Friday KSR radio before we tee off in the KSR Louisville Golf Scramble. Unlike the Lexington scramble a few weeks ago, we won’t be live commentating golf swings from the tee box, but we do have plenty to discuss on today’s show.

Join in on the fun by calling (502) 571-1080 or send a text to the KSR Texting Machine at (772) 774-5254.

Read the article on UK lefties; does anyone remember when first grade teachers would whack your left hand with a ruler to make you switch to the right hand. Happened to me, and I became ambidextrous…or amphibious?
I could pitch left or right handed, switch-hit, shoot the basketball with both, and write with both; so, a blessing?

I went to Catholic schools. We had nuns as teachers. They would dress up like penguins and beat the $hit out of you. Possibly out of sexual frustration. Our principal was Sister Sylvester – years later, I have wondered if her last name was Stallone. One time she walked into the lunchroom with a ten foot length of TP stuck to her shoe trailing behind her. The crowd went wild. 🙂

Priest was walking downtown; a hooker asked him, “Want a quickie, $20? He was confused.
      Priest: “Sister, what’s a quickie”?
Nun: ” $20, just like in town”.
Yeah I know; old, old joke.

Wonder if you were already ambidextrous and just didn’t know it. Not sure if someone can learn to be truly ambidextrous.

The Cajun chef Justin Wilson used to say he was ambiguous.

I taught myself to use a left handed mouse for work, but writing would be harder.

My wife is not ambidextrous, but she can do that thing where you write with both hands at the same time and it’s a mirror image (in other words, the left hand is writing backwards). Freaky!

That is way more impressive then being sort of related to a bad bro country singer.

I haven’t been listening to the show recently because of work stuff, but it’s funny how Matt keeps riding the coattails of his country music singing cousin. Why are we just now hearing about this? He has been at it for awhile now.

At least he did call him his 2nd cousin once removed (I’ll just assume he is right about that). I’m kind of a stickler about that stuff, and I hate it when people just call somebody a 2nd cousin or whatever when that isn’t accurate.

I’ve only ever knew one cousin that wasn’t a first, so I never learned all that. What are my Dad’s cousin and his daughter?

    • chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door
      11:04 am August 14, 2020 Permalink

Your dad’s cousin is your 2nd cousin…I think. The other I dunno. 3rd cousin?

    • ClutchCargo
      11:05 am August 14, 2020 Permalink

Depends on what type of cousin your dad’s cousin is. Assuming he is a first cousin of your dad, he would be your first cousin once removed. And the daughter would be your second cousin.

Your first cousin’s kid and your kid would be second cousins. The x-times removed refers to the difference in generations. So the second cousin once removed kid would be your kid’s second cousin once removed. The second cousin’s grandchild and your kid would be second cousins twice removed, and so on.

That stuff makes my head hurt. My parents were both widowed with kids when they met and then had me, so my “family” is twice as extended as most. So I have scores of cousins – both blood relatives, once removed, 2nd, 3rd, you name it. Our wedding was absolute bedlam – had probably 300 people on the guest list. I kept having people I didn’t recognize coming up and congratulating me. When we were on our honeymoon in Florida, we stuck up a convo with a guy in a UK hat. Turned out he was from BG. I mentioned that we were down there honeymooning, and somewhere along the way mentioned all the unknown relatives. An hour or so later, this guy I didn’t recognize came up to me like he had known me for years and started asking about the wedding. At one point, he just looked at me and said “you have no idea who I am, do you?” I was embarrassed at this point, and bumbled around and said something about being sorry, that there were a lot of people there. He started laughing, and said his buddy over there in the UK hat had put him up to it. 😀

That stuff can get really complex, for sure. I have never gotten into genealogy, but I just find the family tree stuff interesting. Yet another thing I’m kind of a nerd about. It helps that one of my wife’s grandmothers was REALLY into genealogy.

Public places that make a show of sanitizing are full of baloney. My husband had a co-worker test positive this week, and the guys that showed up to clean in hazmat suits didn’t even go near the area the sick employee works in. It was all for show.

Yeah, Sauerback in LaGrange is almost walking distance from me. I think there is still one in Georgetown IN. I think that one has two screens. I think they are making a bit of a comeback this year. The one in LaGrange is a small family run affair – it has been his dream to run a drive-in theater. He launched it the summer before last, and a month into the season a freak thunderstorm knocked the screen down. I’m glad he was able to come back from that.

Never been to Critchfield’s, but I would like to check it out sometime. Do they actually do their own butchering, or just mostly resell pre-packaged stuff they buy by the case?
