I wonder if we’ll leave Harlan alive today? Shout-out to Raylan Givens.

Look out for Boyd Crowder, the Dixie Mafia, Miami cartel, etc.

I’m halfway through season 6, so no spoilers if some of the above are no longer a threat. 🙂

We watched like one episode of that and quit. Sounds like we maybe should have kept going.

Yes, Realme. I did the same thing many months ago. That first episode kind of sucked and didn’t make me want to keep watching, so I quit. Glad I powered through that one this time. Seasons 5 and 6 are worth the wait.

That was the same for me and Breaking Bad. It started so slow that I quit watching after the first couple episodes. Kept hearing how good it was, so I started it again. It’s now top 5 for me as well. Give Justified another shot.

Just try to put the many geographical inconsistencies out of your mind. That, and the fact that the supposed Harlan Co and Lexington scenery in no way resembles KY. I guess they couldn’t have gotten a Hollywood cast and crew to live in Eastern KY long enough to do a series.

Is it just me or are Stankey and others trying to manipulate America into wearing masks, like a parent telling a child they have to be good if they want Santa to bring presents?

      10:19 am July 14, 2020 Permalink

Yeah, and the Surgeon General says we can drive the virus into the ground in a few weeks if we all wear masks. In other news, he has a swamp on Mars to sell you.

    • RealCatsFan
      10:26 am July 14, 2020 Permalink

Well, I guess the alternative is that we just throw up our hands, give up, and say “oh well”…

Wearing a mask is perhaps the easiest thing we can do that will very possibly help the situation. Aside from washing hands frequently, it is easier than social distancing, and definitely better than shutting everything down again. Making a political statement out of it is where everything went off the rails.

    • Realme

I’m not staying is okay to go maskless, I just think people doing that are being condescending and silly. I agree that even Cal and Satan would not make people change their stubborn opinion they made based on what news media they want to believe.

Back to the Indians, Lone Ranger and Tonto were in a canyon, and the Ranger goes behind a bush to do his business.
A rattlesnake bit him on the Johnson.
“Tonto, go into town and ask the doctor what to do”
The doctor tells Tonto the venom has to be sucked out.
“Tonto, what did the doctor say?”
“He say you going to die, Kemo Sabe.”

I have to wonder how WWII would have gone for us if we had the internet back then and people had access to all these conspiracy theories. Someone would have probably tried to push the agenda that victory gardens, metal and rubber collection drives, and volunteering for the war effort were part of a socialist agenda to control everybody. Sigh. Sometimes I think that the WWW ain’t such a good thing.

    • runningunnin.454
      10:37 am July 14, 2020 Permalink

    • ClutchCargo
      10:40 am July 14, 2020 Permalink

The ratings are probably fine, but it takes more money than what that would provide to support the “non-revenue” sports. Non-existent or smaller crowds for football and men’s basketball is really going to cut into the budget.

Harlan is the beginning of “Thunder Road” where moonshiners, chased by “Revenuers”, ran illegal booze into Tennessee. Check out the lyrics to the “Ballad of Thunder Road” sung by actor Robert Mitchum. Was a great 1950’s movie, too.

“Sprung from cages out on Highway 9
Chrome wheeled, fuel injected and steppin’ out over the line”

      “Beyond the palace, hemi-powered drones
      Scream down the boulevard”
