Did anybody else see Drake making an ass of himself on the sidelines last night? Why does the NBA allow him to move around like that?

    • ClutchCargo
      10:10 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

Surely there is some rule that no one but coaches, players and officials can be in the area in front of the scorer’s table or benches. If not, there should be.

    • “Uh, sir, you can’t be…”
      “It’s okay. I’m a famous rapper.”
      “Oh, gotcha.”

    • RealCatsFan
      10:12 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

Apparently there is a different set of rules for millionaire rap stars.

    • J-Dub421
      10:14 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

Money talks. Rich people have a different set of rules.

    • That is basically the same thing as the old “Do you know who I am?” card.

    • ClutchCargo
      10:16 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

I don’t think it’s so much that he is rich, but more that he is famous. The NBA is probably fine with being associated with a famous rapper and looking more cool because of it. But this is a bad precedent.

Whose idea was it to put a dirty toilet in Ryan’s cell? That’s just nasty.

Hold the phone (or something else!) Are you telling me that Ryan is actually using that commode they put in his cell? Eeeeewwwww!

    • ClutchCargo
      10:13 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

I don’t think so, since there is likely no plumbing in that area. Plus, I think the health department might have a problem with that being out there in the restaurant.

    • Realme
      10:16 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

No it was artificially made to look dirty. Even Ryan wouldn’t be dumb enough to use an unconnected toilet.

    • J-Dub421
      10:18 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

There’s no way he’s using an open toilet in the middle or a restaurant. It would be a health hazard, and they’d be shut down. Also, it’s not hooked up to plumbing.

I’m assuming Trump didn’t pardon Ryan; lol, however, tonight at 8 p.m. Turner Classic Movies is showing Cool Hand Luke in his honor.

  5. Hey, random question I meant to ask after the Justin Rogers commitment:

Speaking of O linemen, why did my man Bunchy Stallings not get drafted? He was an All American! I know sometimes even with an AA you’ll hear from the combine that some measurable wasn’t great (a step slow, not quite big enough, etc.), but I never heard anything one way or another.

    • J-Dub421
      10:19 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

No clue. I thought he should have been drafted. However, he did get picked up as a free agent.

    • Oh well, just like Josh, he was a 2 star (in at least 1 service) and proved that ranking wrong. Hopefully he’ll do it again.

I’ll just never forget that not only did he go to HS in Bham, but the thing with Brown and Schlarman walking through the snow to get to the school and spending the night with the students who were stranded.

      10:28 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

I’m a bit confused; under the McDaniels thread, two commenters said, “Why are we talking about him, it’s football season…huh, where, it’s May.
Another comment implied that we tip off basketball in August…I’ve not seen that, Huh?

I don’t understand why people think that you have to play somebody just because they want to challenge you to play them. Penny is publicly saying that he wants to play UK because his team needs it much more than UK does.

    • J-Dub421
      11:03 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

Lots of coaches want to try to make a name for themselves at our expense. No, just no. Lower ranked fighters don’t automatically get a title shot. You have to work your way up.

Jumping the shark in sports: Michael Jordan trying to play baseball.

      Absolutely.

  13. ClutchCargo

Matt doesn’t seem to understand what jumping the shark means.

    • robukpt
      11:05 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

Yeah, that was my call. I’d argue Jordan doesn’t fit the criteria bc he went on to win 3 more titles. Now coming back and going to Washington fits for me. The expanded topic would be the other SEC moments that could be considered jumping the shark.

Ps. I still argue the bears qualify bc they poured everything into that title but haven’t done anything g since. Just bc you remember doesn’t disqualify it. That’s why we remember jumping the shark in the first place. Fits to me.

    • J-Dub421
      11:08 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

Jordan flamed out hard in baseball though. Jordan thought he could easily switch to another sport because he’s a great athlete. He was very wrong. Different sports require completely different sets of skills.

    • RealCatsFan
      11:14 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

Further supports my notion that Bo Jackson may have been the greatest overall athlete in history. Too bad he got injured.

    • ClutchCargo
      11:16 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

Jordan jumped that shark prematurely when he played baseball, because he still had something left in the tank. Not so sure about the Superbowl Bears, since playing good football is what they are supposed to do, and it wasn’t done as a desperation move to maintain relevance.

I listened to Matt and Drew on Finebaum yesterday; entertaining, and I thought they did a good job.

EJ simply cannot hold Nerlens’ (or AD’s) jock strap when it comes to defense. Both of those guys just had natural timing and explosiveness for shot blocking that I don’t think you can teach.

    • ClutchCargo

Nerlens was like a giant Ashton Hagans with the way he could just take the ball away from guys routinely.

Beshear being nominated for the Dem’s was a disappointment for me. He was the least desirable of the 3 leading candidates for me. I honestly think they would have had a better chance of taking down Bevin with one of the other two.

This is what happens when less than 18% of registered voters bother to even show up to vote. People all over the world have fought for the right to vote and we don’t even think it’s worth our time. Sad.

    • RealCatsFan

Yeah, for me it is kind of like the presidential election all over again. Is this the best we can do? NOPE!

    • RealCatsFan
      11:29 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

I would have loved to have voted, but since I am registered as Independent I am not allowed to. Dumb rule that only adds to partisan politics.

    • Realme
      11:34 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

Same, RCF. The fact that people join and blindly follow one of two teams causes a lot of what’s wrong with government.

    • ClutchCargo
      11:35 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

I guess it prevents one party’s voters from sabotaging the other party by bumping up a terrible candidate. But it kind of works out that way unintentionally, and you’re right that it promotes partisan politics. When we elect people based on what they oppose, that’s a recipe for bad politics in my opinion.

    • RealCatsFan
      11:41 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

Well, with 18% voting I don’t think you would see that much sabotage.

    • Realme
      11:44 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

I mean, I hate both parties. As an independent, I might be tempted to sabotage…

    • RealCatsFan

Yeah, I would sabotage BOTH parties. 😀

    • ClutchCargo
      11:56 am May 22, 2019 Permalink

It’s based on the percentage of votes cast, so I would argue that the ability to sabotage would be even greater when fewer people vote.
