I came in right at the end of the conversation about birding yesterday, so here you go:

I keep telling my wife I want to do the birding trail down at Dauphin Island (off Gulf Shores, AL). Seabirds galore!

I think it includes Fort Morgan as well, and maybe some of the Gulf Shores area…not sure what all. I once just stood there for the longest watching pelicans circle and dive for food at Fort Morgan right where the Dauphin Island Ferry docks. It was way cool. You can see natural gas rigs off the coast there too.

The pelicans always reminded me of a bombing squadron when they would fly over in low formation. One time they were indeed bombers – I was sitting on a deck bar in Destin and several flew over and deposited a nice “bomb” right into the drink of the girl I was talking to. πŸ™‚

In related news, reports are surfacing that the Great Tits of Europe are turning into brain eaters!

β€œThe dead flycatchers were all found in active tit nests and had severe head wounds, and often their brains had been eaten by the tits.” Hahahahaha!

Doesn’t appear to be related to the tufted titmouse we have around the bird feeder.

How can such a pretty little bird be so evil?

I don’t know about evil. I’m kinda leaning toward bad-ass. The dead flycatchers were all found in active tit nests. Sounds like the great tits believe in the castle doctrine. πŸ˜‰

Seriously, he’s a very classy guy and a better QB than many give him credit for. I don’t know how good they would have been in the postseason, but remember (and I know I’m a broke record here…old man reference too) that the year he broke his thumb he was literally playing like an MVP. Unfortunately that was also the year of the Vontez and Pacman meltdown in the playoff game with AJ McCarron from Bama as the fill-in QB.

The trick to wearing a mask and avoiding glasses fog may be to have a pipe cleaner sewn into the top so you can shape it around your nose.

    • RealCatsFan
      10:28 am May 1, 2020 Permalink

Yep, or a bread tie, if it’s a homemade mask.

    • ClutchCargo
      10:31 am May 1, 2020 Permalink

I don’t know. I have the type of mask that fits securely all the way around and has the thin metal strip at the top for fitting your nose. I still get a stream of air coming out the top and going in my eyes every time I exhale. That might help, though, if you have a thinner material that allows more air to escape through the fabric or at the bottom.

Our fridge took a crap yesterday after a good long life of 5 whole years. I have a spare fridge in the garage that I use for beer and meat, so we have a short-term backup. We are down to two that Home Despot has in stock and we are going to look at them sometime today looking like a couple of robbers. Don’t ever buy Samsung kitchen appliances, btw.

Clutch, yeah, I have heard a lot of bad stuff about Samsung. I have a Whirlpool that is literally 25 years old and still going strong. I have had multiple salespeople tell me to not expect the new ones to last that long. Since Mrs RCF wanted a fancy new stainless steel fridge to go with the fancy kitchen remodel that I did a few years ago, I actually repainted our white fridge and put a stainless steel overlay on the doors. The results were pretty good, and a lot cheaper than a new fridge!

Childhood memory here: I attended Ashland Elementary. In my 5th grade year we used the old Henry Clay High School (they had just built a new one) because they were building a new Ashland on the same site I had been going to. They tore down the old Ashland and rebuilt in 1 year (judging from the website, the “new” Ashland is still the same building now). Anyway, in that 1 year, a LJS was right across the street, and we could go in after school and ask for a tray of the fish crumblies and they would give them to us for free. Great fun. Haha.

    Kentucky inventions?:In general;

*The “gas mask” necessity was likely born from the “SECRET” military poisonous gas stockpile/compound that is buried underground in Richmond, Kentucky,. It sits directly across the road from EKU. Very dangerous!
*Kentucky is where the “Happy Birthday To You” song was created.
    *Disco Balls.
*Cheeseburgers, were created by Kaelin’s restaurant in Louisville.
*John Thompson, born in Newport, Kentucky in 1860, invented the Thompson machine gun, better known as the “Tommy Gun”!
*The “Stop Light” was invented by former slave, Garrett Morgan.
    * “Jif” peanut butter came from Lexington, KY.
    * Yellow “Sticky Notes” invented in Cynthiana, KY.

    Con-Air was pretty good.

BTW, Cage’s character wasn’t so much falsely accused as much as the law saying, sort of, because of his martial arts prowess he wrongly killed a guy in a bar fight when 3 or 4 guys wanted to make a pass at his pregnant wife.

Anyway, I dig any movie where the bad guys don’t realize at first they have a good guy in their midst, with special skills, skulking around thwarting their efforts at being bad (see also Die Hard, Under Siege, etc.).
