I reserve the right to turn off the games, like I did Saturday. Twenty-five points behind at the start of 2nd half, and we run into the line for two yards? Tired of playing it safe. Also tired of blind loyalty; 3rd and goal from the seven, and they try to make TW into Derrick Ramsey? BTW, Ramsey could probably have scored on that play.
Saban tried to give Coach Stoops the benefit of his experience; time of possession is a useless stat. Only stat that matters is on the scoreboard.

      10:16 am November 23, 2020 Permalink

Anthony White said if Smoke makes his block on the LB on that play, Terry walks in for the score. But I thought Terry got tackled by a big lineman, and I remember thinking Terry’s not tiny, but he’s not Cam Newton size either.

Anyway, he had a really interesting perspective on Landon’s holding call. He said Smoke was supposed to (or should have…I forget the exact words) cut to the middle on that play but bounced it to the outside instead, so he blamed the hold on Smoke because Landon had forced the defender to the outside and had no choice by to hold at that point. The funny thing is Jordan Rogers kept saying “You gotta let him go at that point!”, so he didn’t see what Anthony did.

On well, 0-2 for my man smoke per AW.

What the actual hell did people expect out of a BBM scrimmage? People on my timeline were griping about shooting and defense, now Matt complains about it. Dumb.

    • ClutchCargo
      10:15 am November 23, 2020 Permalink

Yeah, it has never been actual basketball, and coach basically told them to just don’t do something dumb and get hurt. But I would have expected as least more than 1 person to go inside the 3 point line each time down the court.

That depends; Coach is going to have to wake up, his philosophy is stuck in 1900. The forward pass was introduced in 1906.

Question I wonder is how much of the offensive issues are on Gran and how much are on Stoops? Brown, Dawson, and Gran all ran a more wide open dynamic offense but when they get to UK we never see that type of offense. I’m curious if Stoops is handcuffing the OC’s. UK does not have the athletes Bama does, but they have a legit air attack and a legit ground attack which shows that balance is possible.

    • chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door
      10:17 am November 23, 2020 Permalink

Yes, that thought has been discussed ad nauseum in several posts and in the comments sections.

    • chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door
      10:19 am November 23, 2020 Permalink

And that philosophy must be what’s behind his consistent recruiting of dual threat QBs who seem to run better than throw. Maybe it’s also because he never thought he would sign a Tim Couch, but he did manage to sign Beau Allen, so we’ll see how that works out.

    • runningunnin.454
      10:20 am November 23, 2020 Permalink

I think it’s obvious; it is NOT Gran.

    • Realme
      10:22 am November 23, 2020 Permalink

Lack of receivers that can get open doesn’t help, but clearly Stoops’s overall philosophy is to try to get up by 2 touchdowns and then burn the clock, and he was literally on the sideline telling Gran to just give it to Benny a couple years ago, so it’s definitely a lot on him. But also Gran seems to make some bonehead calls.

    • ClutchCargo
      10:24 am November 23, 2020 Permalink

We need a new term for QBs who can run, but not throw. “Dual threat” implies they are good at doing both.

    • chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door
      10:28 am November 23, 2020 Permalink

      My thoughts exactly Clutch.

And Realme, I was going to mention that. At least in the Vandy game with Benny, we had a generational RB who we knew could put that game away. The problem is, Stoops does it regardless. He again didn’t try to score late 2nd quarter. Remember when he tried to run out the clock against UGA but they got the ball back with far less time on the clock and actually tried to score?

    • chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door
      10:40 am November 23, 2020 Permalink

Clutch, I remember when Jalen Whitlow was getting a good bit of PT in Stoops’ first year or 2, and I think most fans thought the reason we were running the “ground & pound” instead of the Air Raid was because we didn’t have a QB who was a passing threat. We definitely know now it was more than that. I was really pulling for Jalen since he played at Prattville (same HS as Austin MacGinnis). I love it when the rare UK signee from around here does well at UK. Smoke got behind this year with the injury and didn’t have a good game Saturday, but we’ll see what the future holds if Stoops can right the ship.

    • ClutchCargo
      10:46 am November 23, 2020 Permalink

I’m really hoping he is hearing the criticism about the offensive philosophy, or lack thereof, and takes it to heart. I loved what Saban said about time of possession.

    • Realme
      10:49 am November 23, 2020 Permalink

The time of possession theory should work against a super dangerous offense, if you don’t throw away your opportunities every time you end up in the red zone.

Like most stats, that one just doesn’t tell the whole story by itself. There is something to be said about keeping the ball away from Alabama’s offense. But I think we lull ourselves to sleep on offense by focusing too much on TOP.

    • Southky
      10:57 am November 23, 2020 Permalink

Jmcatt one person who is never criticized on the offensive side by this staff or site for abysmal performance is Terry Wilson and I’ll never understand why.

    • ClutchCargo
      11:08 am November 23, 2020 Permalink

Criticizing Terry Wilson would be pointless and unfair. He just isn’t that good, but is doing the best he can. That’s all we can ask of a player.

    • chris gettelfinger is not walking through that door
      11:14 am November 23, 2020 Permalink

In all fairness though Clutch, the writers here do seem to have a kid gloves thing with Terry. Having said that though, who knows how he plays if he doesn’t get hurt last year (and there were stories that said he was injured at A&M the year before and was hampered the rest of the year)?

    • Realme
      11:21 am November 23, 2020 Permalink

Agree with both sides. Terry doesn’t deserve a ton of criticism, he is what he is, and it’s not like he isn’t trying. However, the official KSR position went from loudly defend Terry every time he comes up to let’s not mention Terry. They were very hard on people who said early this season that he wasn’t that good. He never was that good, even pre-injury. He had a couple good games per season, and he won a lot more thanks to Josh, Benny and Lynn.

    • ClutchCargo
      11:33 am November 23, 2020 Permalink
