Watched W Michigan vs Ball State last night; Ball State having a weird season. They gave Notre Dame all they wanted early in the season; but, went into last night’s game 3-7. Ball State won 42-41 in OT when W Mich went for 2 pt conversion and failed. Just mid-majors, but a great game.
Also watched Tennessee basketball; they looked decent enough; but, didn’t think they played together as a team. Admiral Schofield in his 6th season at UT.

      What is he 35 now?

No, I think he’s on Medicare.

Can he transfer up here and push people around for us in year 7? I like him.

I like what he said about Kentucky basketball last season.

He might have the 20 years of service required to be promoted to admiral.

Swear that every time I see Tennessee play, Ronnie Slay is lurking at the end of the bench, dressed and ready to go, headband and all.

Schofield said this past October; “We respect Kentucky because of their stature. They have won championships. For us, we’re still striving to get to that point”.
      Yeah, likable fella.

Cal said a couple times before the season that this team was further along than usual. Now they’re behind? How do you not know how good they are at basic basketball as their coach?

    • runningunnin.454
      10:22 am November 14, 2018 Permalink

I think the offense will be fine; the new guys have never played defense…that’s the challenge.
We lost to a team that hit everything and made it look worse.

    • Realme
      10:25 am November 14, 2018 Permalink

As usual, as soon as they start doing work on defense, the offense works itself out in transition. We saw a few minutes of that in the second half last game.

Did anyone else find it troubling that just a few weeks before the Duke game Cal said they had not started working on defense yet? I love Cal, but that bothered me.

    • Realme
      10:30 am November 14, 2018 Permalink

He always says that. Doesn’t teach defense before the season starts. Maybe not the best plan when you have a super team first game.

      10:42 am November 14, 2018 Permalink

I was really surprised, but confused, when Cal was so high on this team during the summer. It seems even more odd now. Regardless, I believe they do have the potential to be a great team. They just got exposed by an unusually tough opening game.

I don’t think the Bennett question was perfect. He said something like is it time to overhaul the entire offense? Of course not, there’s 2 games left in the season. He should have asked if they will make SOME changes offensively.

      Play faster!!!

    • ClutchCargo
      11:19 am November 14, 2018 Permalink

That would certainly help. I really don’t get why it takes so long to get the plays in. Especially when they’re the same handful of plays for at least three quarters of the game. Maybe Gran needs to be up in the press box. He’s pretty short, so maybe he can’t really see what’s going on?

Great, we have to play Louisville at night on ESPN. Another opportunity for embarrassment on a national stage. Saw an article saying that UL was showing “new energy” at practice. Our boys better be ready for this. They are not rolling over for us like they did most of the year.

Benny, and Josh and a dozen or so other seniors will be ready for their last regular season game against the biggest rival.

    • runningunnin.454
      10:34 am November 14, 2018 Permalink

I like the primetime night games; but, didn’t understand it when it was announced. ESPN must like turmoil and train wrecks.

Seems like we can rarely get that evening slot for our home games. Sure would be nice to have it for the basketball game against them. I miss throwing parties for the game – was a lot of fun back in the day. Now we are lucky if they don’t hold the basketball game at 11 AM on a Wednesday.

    • ClutchCargo
      10:44 am November 14, 2018 Permalink

I choose to look at it as another opportunity to shine on a national stage. The coaches and team had better be looking at it that way, too. For the most part, this team has stepped up to do some things that people didn’t think they could do. Now they have to not play down to the competition.

Benny’s remarks troubled me the most; he may have had reasons; but, that’s probably better left in the locker room.
Maybe the OL wanted their pictures in Times Square.

    • Iamheasyouarehe
      10:42 am November 14, 2018 Permalink

I wondered if that might create some jealousy among the players.

I’m okay with Benny or Josh speaking up like that. If you’re a leader you hold guys that are holding you back accountable.

    • RealCatsFan
      10:44 am November 14, 2018 Permalink

I love Benny – his enthusiasm for the game is contagious – but sometimes he shows that he still has some growing to do from a maturity standpoint. I think he is a good dude, but there are still some lessons out there that will need to be learned. Sometimes the less you say, the better.

    • ClutchCargo
      10:47 am November 14, 2018 Permalink

He didn’t call anybody out by name. So if any of his teammates see themselves in those comments, they most likely know he is right.

    • Realme
      11:12 am November 14, 2018 Permalink

Also, when they were so good in the first half of the season, Benny was constantly giving credit to the guys getting him open. It’s fair to say so when that stops happening and the team stops achieving what it’s capable of.

I really thought our basketball team was going to be chock full of great shooters. Seemed like these guys couldn’t miss for a while there – especially Herro. Seems like someone has put a lid on the basket since the Bahamas.

    • ClutchCargo
      10:49 am November 14, 2018 Permalink

The stats right now say otherwise, but I think this is a team with a lot of good shooters. They are just taking bad shots. Too many guys who are catch and shoot types are trying to be a hero and do too much.

    • runningunnin.454
      11:10 am November 14, 2018 Permalink

But, but, but…he is a Herro. No, you’re right, shot selection has not been good but it will come.

    • J-Dub421
      11:19 am November 14, 2018 Permalink

The teams we played in the Bahamas were all basically there to be on vacation. Heck, some of them probably played hung over. College teams also really really really really want to beat us because we’re Kentucky. Pro teams don’t care as much.

  7. J-Dub421
    11:25 am November 14, 2018 Permalink

Basketball will be fine. They guys are still learning how to play together and Cal is still figuring out who plays well together and is playing around with line ups. It will all work out. Don’t panic.

I think our best line up right now is Quickley, Green, Keldon, and then some combination of Reid, Nick, and EJ.

We all like to gripe about play calling (‘specially me) but only two SEC teams have won more conference games than UK…’Bama and Georgia.

    • ClutchCargo

But we should fire Gran. And then fire Stoops for keeping Gran around for so long. That was an actual comment I read somewhere. I can’t even make up something so stupid.

    • J-Dub421
      11:53 am November 14, 2018 Permalink

There’s a lot of stupid running through our fanbase right now. Just read some of the dumb comments in Aaron Torres article above this one. One idiot said Cal should just recruit and Robic should coach the games, and other idiots agreed with him. We have a Hall of Fame coach for crap sakes.

    • J-Dub421
      11:54 am November 14, 2018 Permalink

We’ll still likely end up with a 9-3 record. I will take that all day every day.

    • runningunnin.454
      12:00 pm November 14, 2018 Permalink

Yep, I think only one team can pass us in SEC wins…LSU, but it might not be easy, they’re at A&M.

  10. J-Dub421
    11:55 am November 14, 2018 Permalink

Melo needs to retire. He’s one of the worst defenders ever, and now he’s not scoring 25+ points per night, so you can’t overlook the bad defense.
