My generation meets Van Halen, the song was inspired by Roy Orbison’s wife, Claudette,

Had a major jam session to old school VH on the drive in to work this morning. For about 25 minutes, I was transported back to high school. RIP Edward van Halen.

Never seen that video for the song “Pretty Woman”. My favorite VH song is “Unchained” off of Fair Warning. Classic bare knuckled rock and roll song, with VH in their heyday.

Mike Leach playing the air raid sirens at his press conference yesterday was the ultimate goat move. He’s bringing it back to Kentucky Saturday.

Caught the 4th quarter of their game vs Arkansas on Saturday; MSST looked awful. If it rains on Saturday night as projected, I think MSST will struggle to move the ball.

We won’t play a defense as bad as Ole Miss in a long time, but our run-based offense is perfect for bad weather football.

This true to an extent, but I will say this: Bad weather football on turf isn’t as bad as bad weather football on grass. It may slow down the air raid a bit, but it won’t stop it.

That is true. For better or worse, our secondary was lights out last season in poor weather, so I’m banking on a similar performance on Saturday. IMO, the season depends on it; we can’t afford to start 0-3 with Tenn and Georgia looming.

You’re right JT; the season depends on this game.

Sigh. Yes, Matt, that’s the weather alert here. Two things can be true at once: it is perfect weather now, and the alert can still go off. Probably just a test!

Just like yesterday, at Kroger — it only takes 2 minutes to fill out a card and you can just punch in your phone number when you are at checkout. It’s not difficult

I’m picturing Ryan going to see Big Ben and thinking there is a weather alert when the bells sound.

Matt’s idiotic rants are really getting annoying, and does Ryan agree with every idiotic thing Matt says? I’m going to say this just once, hopefully, maybe…….IDIOTS!!!

Just heard that the volleyball games my kid was supposed to play this weekend in Lexington have been canceled because they are in the red zone. Bummer.

Matt ruminating on what “gasperilla” means and saying “I may be wrong”. Understatement of at least the week…

    • ClutchCargo
      10:56 am October 7, 2020 Permalink

Google tells me Gasparilla was a Spanish pirate and there is a Gasparilla festival in Tampa. I had wondered what that was about, but had never felt the urge to even google it until now.

The old St. Petersburg Bowl, which was played on that awful turf that the Rays play on, is now the Gasparilla Bowl. They moved it from that awful indoor baseball field to the Buccaneers’ NFL stadium, and it’s a much better event with a unique logo, name, and an actual football field!

It is now one of the secondary choice SEC bowl games, so if MSST ever goes 6-6 under Leach, they’re a shoo-in for that bowl game.

rg, heard this song driving home yesterday, brought back some dusty memories. I always thought it was haunting and mysterious.

Apparently after the mid seventies Bobbie Gentry seemed to completely fall off the face of the earth. She has been living out of the public eye ever since then.

Oh yeah, hot hot hot. Got to be good if you knock the Beatles out of No. 1. After this song came out, the government couldn’t keep people from jumping off that bridge; finally passed an ordinance against it.

If you look at the pictures, it doesn’t look to be more than about 20 feet down to the water. I jumped off 76 Falls at Lake Cumberland a couple times, and it is way more than that. (Won’t do that again – last time I chipped a tooth.)

      Maybe Billy Joe couldn’t swim.

Bobbie Gentry just lost interest in the music scene; she’s worth 100 million. She was one of the original owners of the Phoenix Suns.

According to Wiki, the Tallahatchie Bridge is very close to the Bryant’s Grocery & Meat Market, where Emmett Till was alleged to have whistled at the owner’s wife, who was white. A tragic and interesting connection.

RCF, you’re showing your age. Till was killed in ’55; he was only 14, and his killers were acquitted.

I’m busy and have a meeting coming up, but really quick, so sad about EVH and Johnny Nash. I love “I Can See Clearly”, and VH is definitely in my top 2 or 3 of favorite hard rock bands, probably 1.

A note about EVH playing on “Beat It”: Steve Lukather did also, and in fact Toto is all over that album. Steve Porcaro wrote “Human Nature”. See Lukather talking about it here (he had to re-record some of EVH’s stuff because Eddie accidentally cut the tape while editing):

I will take Matt at his word that he can help that guy get his unemployment. But if so, it’s a huge problem if somebody who knows somebody can just help people cut in line when so many others are in the same situation.
